Upsurge in spam?

In just the last week I’ve been getting lots more spam than before, maybe 4 or 5 a day instead of 2 or 3 a week. My e-mail spam filter has been turned on for ages, and is still on. Is this just me, or are others experiencing the same thing? Any idea why?

We noticed last week that we were getting tons of spams about Apple gift cards one day, then Starbucks gift cards the next (maybe a dozen in a row). All of them from the same from name but different from address and IP. I see that earlier today I got a handful from “Life Changing Ideas.”

Luckilly our spam filter caught them all, but yeah we did notice something.

Also I see from my daily reports I was getting 40-50 spam emails per day (caught in the filter) now I am getting 80-90.

Whee!

Yeah, I’ve been getting a heck of a lot at work and home. I finally installed MailWasher, hopefully it’ll help. If anything, it makes it a lot faster to get rid of.

My spam at work has quadrupled in the last week or so. Bless spam filters, amen.

4 or 5?!? I wish I only got 4 or 5 a day. My main address gets something like 100 a day. It’s my old one, so I had it before I knew to be careful about it, but I’m afraid of getting rid of it because some old friends have it.

Recently there was a story about some software that was used by many adult sites getting hacked, last October I think. They were saying that people’s names and email addresses were probably lost, but no credit card numbers. That could probably increase spam for some people.

I usually never get spam on either my Gmail account or the one I have set up through my website, but within the last 2 weeks or so I have suddenly been seeing much more spam.

I have won the Irish Lottery every day for five days! I’ll bet I really won it, and they’re just trying really hard to notify me. For my cynicism, I will lose out on all that money.

I’m getting a lot of “replica watch” spam now along side my regular dose of viagra spam.

I’ve been getting spam at work. Normally nothing comes across the uber tight filters they have. My spam trap addys have been seeing an uptick as well.

Pfffffffft.

One of my domain names has been recently spammed, almost, but quite entirely, to death.
I think the best (worst?) day, was something in the order of 192,000 pieces of SPAM.

Tax refund time. People have money to spend on worthless get rich schemes, get their penis enlarged or pay a $100 customs fee to get that $100,000,000 lottery prize.
