Urban planners in movies

Architects are often portrayed in film, but urban planners seldom make it to the silver screen.

The only planner characters in movies I can think of are Michael Fry in “The Secret Life of Muchael Fry” and … well, someone in the slacker film “Singles.” That’s it.

Are there any others I’m missing?

It’s been a while since I’ve seen Quick Change with Bill Murray, but I seem to recall his character being in the general field of urban planning.

It is a good movie, one of my favorites even though you don’t hear about it much, and worth checking out regardless.

What about the Christopher Lloyd character in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?. He wanted to demolish Toontown and replace it with strip malls.

OK, it’s a stretch.

Well, The Fountainhead was full of urban planners, but they were all incompetent pseudo-communists eager to be crushed by the heroic individual.

The supercomputer Colossus in Colossus: The Forbin Project kind of counts as one. At least, in regards to the island of Crete.

And a few missile silos, here and there.

I was an extra in “The Murder of Mary Phagan,” and I’m an urban planner - does that count?

I’m guessing not.

Steve Dunne (Campbell Scott) of Singels was what I thought of when I read the title. But I see you’ve mentioned it already so I’ve nothing to add except his name.

Singles

My excuse is that I’ve been up since 6:20 a.m. yesterday.
