Reading the BBQ I just clicked on the “I’m torn – Ted Cruz” thread. I was taken not to the thrad but to a picture of the chrome Icon and a message saying “Urgent Chrome Update.” I backed out and tried again; this time the thread appeared. I then saw that there was a genuine message from Cjrome at the bottomof the window saying it had blocked the above mentioned malware,
This has happened to me every time I come to this site the past 3-4 days and it ONLY happens here. Not only the malicious .exe fake chrome update, but if I click on a post from a forum category and then hit back to go to the section, it usually will go to a splog/ad page off the SDMB in between each actual SDMB page. I’ll go to the BBQ Pit, click on a Ted Cruz post- 1/2 the time it goes to an offsite ad page, the other 1/2 of the time the post works but hitting back goes to an ad page. Multiple popups at every section, also. I’ve run all the virus scans, malware, adware removal, etc. and my stuff is clean. Happens on every/any computer/device I try, including a brand new laptop that’s been scanned and never been on any other sites.
I previously reported that I would once a day get an “urgent Firefox update” that opened up a new tab. But this morning it changed. Instead of opening up a new tab, it overwrote the tab I was viewing. It happened in the elections forum this morning.
Yes, it is most assuredly malware. Firefox does not distribute software updates this way and I bet neither does Chrome. Do not download the “patch.”
I notice that this site used to give me a legitimate “popunder” once a day. I now receive this “urgent update” once a day instead. Related? Maybe.
