That’s actually the NW corner of the Capitol - facing up Penn Ave towards the White House. This is where the first part of the chase came to before she swept east along Constitution Ave to where the chase ended.
As Euphonious Polemic said in the bit you quoted, it was a Republican Representative who said it.
This incident puts the capital O in overreaction. One woman in a car crashes into a gate and flees. The whole capital goes into lock down, cops running with freaking machine guns. The newest reports indicate she was probably unarmed.
What in the hell has happened to America? Cops openly brandishing machine guns in our country’s streets?
I anything I am shocked at how much control the police were displaying in that video - that is after a chase from the White House, after she was boxed in, after they have tried to subdue her several times without deadly force.
To have allowed it to get that far is probably going to get some police officers in trouble.
I have dealt with those officers often. It is surprising how little they are reacting. Perhaps they saw the child inside? Who knows. But from all the events I have seen over the years she was already many steps past the point at which deadly force was likely, especially around the Capitol.
The Oklahoma City bombing and 9/11 happened.
I’ll leave it to the LEO’s judgement that they took the necessary action needed. While it may seem a bit excessive to kill an unarmed woman driving a car with her child in the backseat, I wasn’t on the scene.
It will be interesting to get a bit more backstory on her and what may have led up to the events that transpired earlier today.

The presser is on right now. The driver was shot & killed at the end of the chase at the 100 block of Maryland Ave NE. The now famous video took place on the NW corner of the Capitol and was the first location of shooting.
One thing being said here is that officers were struck and cars were rammed in the chase.
The driver has been “pronounced” according to Chief Lanier.
In case you missed last week, we just had someone enter a federal building and kill a lot of people. The entire city is on edge with the shutdown- it’s affecting is all in a very concrete way. DC is not taking much lightly right now.
Most people in DC eventually end up accidentally driving someplace they shouldn’t be. Generally you get told very clearly and firmly what is going on, and why you should never do that again. You might get your picture taken. But the police are used to wrong turns.
My guess is that she was from the hood, was having problems with her Obamaphone and just wanted to get a new one.

Maybe she drove all the way from [del]Chicago[/del] Connecticut, killed a dog, lost her aunt, then found all the touristy spots closed, and got pissed?

Why are you demanding a cite to back up a claim no one made?
She may not have had a gun but she was certainly using her car as a weapon. Reports are that she had some kind of mental illness issues.
