Have any countries stated they would allow the US to use their land as a base of invasion. I know Saudi Arabia has stated they would not allow this. I also believe Kuwait has stated something similar. How about Jordan, Iran, Turkey, and Syria. I think that is all the countries that border Iraq. Can the US use the Persian Gulf?
Please don’t turn this in a GD.
From what I’ve seen on TV, the answer is no. I haven’t researched the question, though. I think the problem with the question is this- apparently some nations have and will publicly say one thing, then quietly, and secretly do another. That is, we have “secret” bases in some areas that could be used, despite the host nation publicly stating “not us, no how!”, then giving the US the green light with the hopes no one will find out.
We could use the Gulf, but the problems are self evident. It is a funnel to Iraq, in which a very small area could be/would be heavily defended, and casualties on both sides would be high.
My WAG is this, all neighboring nations would publicly say no (barring some strange turn in world opinion), and most, if not all would say no in private also.
Looks like Qatar doesn’t have a problem with us using their airfield.
From what I’ve read in a few places, Syria has given us reluctant permission to use their country, and Turkey is hesitant, but is expected to allow us. Jordan and Iran have told us to get bent. As Chandeleur said though, what is said officially and what is said unofficially can differ wildly (though I think we can safely rely on Iran denying us.
