Floating this idea has been even more counterproductive than usual for the Dotard – first, the image of troops being used to puff Trumpelthinskin’s ego is helping the “Cadet Bone Spurs” moniker stick, second, the Bastille Day connection is reminding people of a bit of history that the 1%-of-1% would rather see forgotten.
Maybe they will serve cake.
Decorated around the edges with little scarlet flowers?
Tax cuts for the rich, trashing minorities, and chickenhawk masturbation parades. #MAGA!
Meh, and obviously the vehicle for an ego trip by Twitler.
89% of Army Times readers oppose his idea for a big military parade: Poll finds almost no one thinks Trump's military parade is a good idea
That’s your mistake. Trump’s base aren’t readers.
I love a parade.
I don’t want to see a third world version with all our impressive weapons dragged out for display.
The military puts on a good show. Let the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels and the U.S. Air Force’s Thunderbirds put together something. Then a parachute drop with troops.
It’s nothing new. Except it will be on a bigger scale than a show at a base.
I could see a simulcast event with shows at multiple bases and maybe West Point’s graduation and swearing-in ceremony.
Yes, display units would be fine — BA’s, Thunderbirds, Golden Knights, the Marine Silent Drill Squad, the Old Guard Fife & Drum Corps. Hell, throw in the Rolling Thunder biker veterans. But I want my armor and infantry units where I paid for them to be used.
Tell them that people who get selected will get a $200 “parade allowance”* and three days additional leave post parade. Then rerun the poll.
*Pretty much everyone who has annual parades does something similar.
How much does that add to the cost?
*North Korea pays its army $200 each and gives them 3 days leave after they march through the streets?
I understand having a parade when your troops are coming home from a war. We’re celebrating the victory and just getting the people back, while commemorating the fallen. I understand a veterans parade that’s about celebrating what they did and honoring the sacrifice of the fallen, as well as possibly raising awareness for issues.
But a parade for showing military might? Or a military parade that’s about celebrating the president? That’s full on creepy. It just screams authoritarianism and even preparing for a war. A President who wants such a thing makes me worry for that country.
My relief is only in the fact that the military itself seems not to want it, and this is just a child wanting to make himself feel important, rather than impending doom. But it still worries me enough for the top option over the second, which has a “perhaps” in it.
I would hope they would not change their morals for less money than they’d actually need for the trip plus leave they could have for free if they’d not volunteered.
I know some people do join up for the monetary benefits, but I’d hope they have their sights set higher than that.
