US Open 2010

Poor Stanislas. :frowning:

Verdasco got an early break on Nadal, but he lost it and spent most of the rest of the match looking like he’d been hit by a truck. Youzhny will have some time to rest up and heal before his semifinal with Nadal but Nadal is on such a roll. Unless Djokovic can reverse his three-year losing streak against Federer in New York the stage looks set for the ultimate final.

Yeah, this is turning into a minor internet kerfluffle. When it happened I thought the sound went out, but then I heard the crowd’s reaction to whatever he said and wondered if we all missed something. Here’s a Sports Illustrated story about it, including a link to the interview with the audio cut out. ESPN insists it was a technical problem, and I’d discount that as a coverup except that Shriver was handed a second microphone and that one worked fine. So I don’t know.

Men’s doubles final is underway, on serve in the first set. After today’s second semi, the women’s doubles final is now set: Vania King [US] and Yaroslava Shvedova [Kazakhstan] against Liezel Huber [US] and Nadia Petrova [Russia].

And the Bryan brothers win yet another major. Poor Pakistan and India.

Don’t feel too bad for them. They’re a pretty new pairing and they hung with the Bryans very well. That’s the fourth US Open championship for the Bryans and their ninth overall. Earlier this year they set the record for most doubles events won by a team. I think they have 64 now.

The women’s semis are next, starting with Wozniacki and Zvonareva.

And Clijsters beats Venus Williams. Coming back from one set down, too.

Zvonereva vs. Clijsters for the final. My money is on Clijsters.

Mine, too. That was a quality match even though the conditions meant the play was not the best. The third set was very good, though. Zvonareva is playing the best she’s ever played - I forgot she also made the Wimbledon final - but it’s hard to see her beating Clijsters since Clijsters has done this before, is on a roll, and the crowd is going to support her enthusiastically.

Rafa’s in!! Wooohooooo!!!

Fed and Joker having a great match. 3-3 in the final set now…feels like Joker is going to win, though.

Best set of the tournament(and year!).

Ouch for Zvonareva. Seems like all Clijsters had to do was show up at the office to collect her paycheck.

And as some could have guessed if they cared at all about what I thought, I’m quite pleased that Djokovic beat Federer. I’ll be honest though, I only watched about half their match because I kept leaving the room to do something else because I fully expected “the same ol’ story” that I’ve complained about in the past. That Federer decides to turn on God Mode and just humiliate his opponents and it seemed like he was in some kind of Half God Mode against Novak, so I’d get all annoyed and leave. Then when I come back, all of a sudden Novak is up 4-1 in the second. Then he loses the third and I’m like, “Shit, so much for this match.” and leave again. When I come back yet again, they’re in a fifth set! I stayed and watched the best set, on the edge of my seat, clenching the couch in the desperate hope somebody actually beats Federer.

Novak and Roger BEST match of the tournement!! Djokovic would battle back to pull even. Fed had some awesome shots…it was great tennis!!

(I wish CBS would get rid of Mary Corello…talk about absoultely NOTHING!! Ramble on…cringe…)

I think it will be a five setter today Rafa taking it.

I really, really wanted to see a Federer/Nadal showdown today, for the history books (acc to Dick, there’s been no time in the Open era tennis history that the same 2 men have met each other in the finals of every grand slam. Amazing.), for their rivalry, and for the folks who paid to see the match. So on that note, I was kind of disappointed.

But during the match, I couldn’t help but hoot for Djokovich! Holy crap! What an amazing match. I felt his mother’s anguish! Afterward, I felt I should smoke a cigarette it was that intense.

That being said, once again I feel that something has happened to Federer. He’s lost his confidence. And he’s looking frail. I think my biceps are bigger than his. He missed balls that he hasn’t missed before. He netted balls that he doesn’t net. It just wasn’t the same Federer. Maybe it’s his age. Maybe he’s mellowed out with fatherhood. But he’s no longer untouchable by anyone but Nadal.

Good for Nole for bringing it when it mattered. I really hope he can bring it today and we can see a match as intense as the Ferrer/Verdasco match.

Honestly, I don’t care who wins today. I want Nadal to win the US Open because it’s the missing jewel in his crown. And I’m not sure how much longer his body can take the intensity of his game. But Djokovich has had a tough year, only one win, and he’s had a rough life – much rougher than Nadal’s. So I’d be thrilled for him if he won, too.

Gooooo Rafa! Gooooo Nole!

P.S. Clijsters/Zvonareva match was, predictably, a big let down.

Rain delay or postponed? I’m not sure yet. How late will CBS let them start? Does CBS have a say? If not, they could start up to 8:00 PM I assume.

Postponed til tomorrow (Monday) at 4pm. Will be televised on CBS.

Rats!

Third year in a row! Meh, I’ll catch it, but it does lose a bit of the drama on a Monday afternoon/early evening.

Indeed-I’ll be at work 'til 8. :(:mad::smack:

Ugh, tell me this isn’t going to resume tomorrow.

Argh!!
