So, who ELSE is most likely to win the Open this week?
I’ll go with Ogilvy. Thought of Zach Johnson and Furyk.
One thing for sure, I think that promotion of a free driver should Sergio win is a safe bet!
If Tiger comes out hot today, he’s gonna win by 7. Even if he does his standard 1st 36-swoon, if he is anywhere near the top at the end of Sat, everyone is gonna come back to him.
I really feel sorry for whoever has to play with Tiger on Sunday. Seems to happen so frequently that some young guy gets hot on Sat, then ends up paired with El Tigre, and starts of doubling the first couple of holes, never to be seen on TV again.
Tiger doubled 5 today, but then birdied 6 to get back to +1. He’s only two 2 strokes behind the leaders right now. I’ll go with Vijay Singh as my 2nd pick behind Tiger. Vijay is kind of quietly always around the leaders, and every once in a while ends up with the money.
Well, with the US Open, you never know who’s going to challenge. That’s the one downside of the tournament: it’s won by really good players, but it’s also won by “Open Specialists” and by total unknowns. So handicapping it is a real pain.
I have my money on Sergio Garcia. I took $10 at $41 about him winning and $50 at $9 about him finishing top 5. Since, in majors, he has 6 top 5 finishes in the last 4 years and 14 (35%) since 1999 he is well over the odds.
Not at the Open unless there is no other possible way to play the round. The USGA hates “lift, clean and place.” The USGA hates “local” rules in general.
Yeah, they were saying on ESPN that the Open makes you play it as it lies. They were saying that the PGA wants to move things along so people can get to the next event on the tour, but the USGA doesn’t care how long it takes to get through the US Open.
There’s a chance that they won’t get this in until the middle of next week. The weather is horrible and the pattern is stalled which means more of the same into next week. Saturday could be worse than today and the course is completely flooded right now.
Yeah, playing more than 18 is bad enough, but the wet conditions make it even more tiring. I remember an interview with Weir about the Masters he won. There was a rain delay, and he made a couple bogeys at the end of a long day because his legs were getting so sore.
