US Open (other than you-know-who)

Those are some really attractive pit stains that Rocco Mediate’s sporting today.

I want Duval to win.

Chris Berman is terrible st golf announcing. He is by far the worst of any of them. Isn’t Mike Tirico there? He’s a million times better than Berman.

There, fixed that for you… :stuck_out_tongue:

He should at least do nicknames for the golfers.

Phil is hitting some shots. Not hitting putts though…

Toms is looking pretty good as well.

I’m going to throw out Vijay Singh. I have no idea why.

These guys that are playing now are going to get to play again this afternoon. They have an incredible advantage - these are not U.S. Open greens. These guys are playing the course like it’s the John Deere Classic.

“…but the day belonged to Tiger Tiger Tiger Tiger, Tiger Tiger Woods Y’all with a 33 on the front nine.”

“…Phil “Snopes” Mickelson misses from gimme range again…”

“…John “I don’t like to brush or shower” Daly with a surprisingly good first round…”

“…Boo “I scared you!” Weekly…”

Typical Lefty – he follows a long birdie by slicing his next drive into the garbage.

These players out here now really are getting a tremendously unfair advantage over those who played yesterday and this morning. It kind of hurts the legitimacy of the scoring.

No kidding. There’s fifteen guys under par and 13 of them are out there right now. Guys are hitting balls out of deep rough and getting them to stop on a dime on the greens. Under normal U.S. Open conditions, those shots would be 30 feet over the green.

Worse yet, the guys out there right now will get to go out again this afternoon, while the guys who finished up this morning will probably have to wait until Sunday for their second round.

Tiger’s tied with Bronson Burgoon.
Anyone wanna guess which of them will finish lower come Sunday (or Monday, Tuesday, etc.)? :stuck_out_tongue:

Please explain why it is so easy for the folks playing right now.
Didn’t Tiger go +3 on the 9 or so holes he played today?
Or did the course get easy when he finished?

The course was soggy early this morning. Since then the sun has come out and dried up the course while the greens are still soft. Just look at the scores from this morning versus right now. It’s obvious.

You’re right. I figured as much soon after I submitted that. Still, sort of surprised me that Tiger wasn’t able to take advantage of the soft greens, despite the rest of the course being soggy. I imagine the wet/long rough must have been quite penal for any missed fairways.

I’m no pro, but I’m looking forward to pin-seeking tomorrow a.m. after all the rain we got last night and today! :stuck_out_tongue:

Seems kinda weird to have the guys out there now playing 36, and yesterday’s morning guys sitting around. Especially if - as it looks - the conditions give an advantage. Any thoughts on why they did it that way? Any opinions on how else they might have done it?

They did it that way because it’s always done that way; I assume there’s a rule governing it somewhere. The group that goes out in the second half in round 1 goes in the first half in round 2. It’s just normally this is a Thursday afternoon and a Friday morning.

We’ll see how these scores hold up when these guys play their second round later today. Maybe the fatigue will start to bring them back a bit.

Nice to see Duval up there…lets hope he makes the cut.

Wow, 64 for Weir, that’s a heck of a round. 8 birdies and a double.

I can’t believe I didn’t even get a chuckle for my Chris Berman impression.

I was too worried that I’d be seeing Jay “burnin’ down the” Haas while drinking having a milkshake with Roger “Chocolate” Maltbie. Billy “May fare” well this weekend.
