This is the first time in my recollection that rain has pushed the finals back play an entire day. There have been years where hurricanes have moved up the coast and it didn’t disrupt the finals, no?
I vaguely recall a US Open match being played indoors prior to it moving the Flushing Meadows, but I could be wrong.
I’ve been surfing between golf and college football games. The only thing I saw definitive was womens doubles finals were going to be on Monday, afternoon I think.
I don’t know what the weather is like in NYC, but i don’t see why they don;t try to get the womens semis done today.
I can’t see CBS pre-empting their Sunday night lineup. 60 minutes and (like it or hate it), CBS has a lot invested in Big Brother which is brginning to wrap up and supposed to be televised at 8 pm edt. There is another worthless reality series wrapping up at 9 pm but I can see CBS pre-empting that show.
obviously they could, unless CBS’s contract with the USTA prohibits it. The USTA might want the finals to be televised on “Free TV”.
I have often wondered when rain washes out days in the later stages of the US Open. They can recover from a lost day 2 and 3 but they cannot get back on schedule if they lose day 12 and day 13.
FTR, ESPN2 is scheduled for repeats of the World Series of Poker on Sunday night, so they can pre-empt their broadcast to show the USOpen.
All I have to say is that they better not preempt Big Brother. Yes, yes, trash tv, I should get some taste. I agree. But if I miss out on a Jeff & Jordan retrospective because they’re too cheap to outfit one lousy court with a roof, I will be seriously pissed.
It’s supposed to be sunny all day tomorrow. The Nadal-del Potro match will be on ESPN2 at noon, and Federer-Djokovic will be on CBS at 4:30. The women’s final will be on ESPN2 at 8, but that assumes they get to play tonight. I just realized one big knot in the schedule: Serena Williams has to play two or three matches, so they are probably trying to be fair to her with the scheduling. That’s why you’re unlikely to see the women’s singles and doubles finals on the same day, and even if they are, they may not be able to play them at the same time depending on what happens with Clijsters.
