Cute kid (no surprise there). I think that’s the first time I’ve ever seen her.
I’m not what you’d call a Tiger Woods fan mostly because all of the slurping kind of gets on my nerves, but that guy is so mentally tough I can’t help but be amazed.
I remember my first high school tournament. I was the team captain and was going in with a lot on my shoulders (team had won a lot in the past, etc). Hole number one was a long par 5 with a tough drive through trees and I made my debut by drilling 4 straight out of bounds and ended up with a 12 (If you ignore the first 8 strokes I did end up birdieing, however). Anyhow, when I watch Tiger play in a pressure situation on the last few holes of a major I can’t help but wish I had 1/10th of what he has.
I think you could see the difference when they were waiting around to tee of on 7 in sudden death. Rocco was fidgety and nervous, pacing around in circles, babbling at his caddy. Tiger was calmly drinking from a water bottle and munching on an apple. You might see him get pissed, and drop f-bombs and throw clubs now and then, but he never looks nervous or scared, no matter how tense the situation. Even if he’s just really good at faking it, that’s got to have a psychological effect on his opponents.
I think this certainly deserves to be ranked near the top of his victories. After a long layoff he went 91 holes on a bad knee against the best in the world and managed to win with play well below his best.
You’ve also gotta give Rocco a lot of credit for forcing Tiger to display his otherworldly talent.
Burger, fries, and some soda to watch from the 14th hole to the very end; that’s how a lunch hour should be spent! Even though I was rooting for Tiger, for once I felt kind of bad for the second place finisher. Damn though, that was just too fun to watch.
Your beef isn’t with Tiger then.
And again your ire is misdirected. Furthermore, your claim that he is faking injury for some nefarious purpose is ridiculous, insulting and completely without merit.
THAT…WAS…AWESOME!!!
Rocco Mediate is the man.
Off to try to salvage what’s left of my day.
To be fair to Rocco, it’s easier to be mentally tough in a situation if you’ve already been there 20 times before.
This was by far the best hour of PTO I’ve ever used. I left work early and listened on XM to holes 12-17. Got home by the 18th and watched the 18th and the sudden death 7th.
Wow. I’ve never seen the 1927 Yankees, but I can tell people about the 2008 US Open.
Does anyone know what his payoff will be?
Regardless, he’ll probably get a few endorsement deals for extra $$
$730, 667. He’ll be in demand wherever middle aged white guys gather in meetings for at least the next year. He will probably double his winnings by collecting appearance fees in corporate outings in the next year.
I don’t begrudge him a penny. Rocco is a great guy.
Tiger needs it. By 2010 he can become a golf billionaire. A few years ago Tom Kite was all time money leader at about 5 mill.
They said he moved his ranking up something like 111 slots. That’s a helluva jump!
This PDF document says it’s $810,000. Sinking that putt at 18 to win would have been worth an additional $540,000.
You are confusing two different sets of facts. Tiger will not have a billion dollars in money earned from golf winnings unless he plays for another 100 years or so. He’s at about $95,000,000 now.
I suspect that the billion dollars refers to winnings, endorsements, etc.
Definitely. His golf winnings rarely top $10 million annually. He and a lot of other high-paid golfers reputedly use their golf winnings to pay the taxes on their endorsement income! :smack:
Career earnings
Not sure if this was updated yesterday, but Rocco is listed at 46.
Check out the bottom of the top 10 - Justin Leonard, Kenny Perry, Stewart Cink.
A few interesting names further down:
Tom Kite 72
Tom Watson 79
Ben Crenshaw 123
Jack Nicklaus 153
Shows how important it is to play when the money is big.
BTW - anyone who thinks my comments about Tiger faking injury or not having had surgery were serious - well, they weren’t.
That’s PGA. As of 2007 his worldwide earnings were about $95,000,000 http://www.tigerwoods.com/defaultflash.sps Click on “About Tiger,” then “Biography.”
To the poster above who said he changed his name, please contact his website. They haven’t received the memo.
Or how useless is such a ranking when not corrected for inflation.
Well, they may not have, but Wikipedia have. They cite an article from CNN dated 4/11/2005.
