USA Election Watch 2026

Oops

Thanks.

That’s sad honestly.

Acton beats Ramaswami for Ohio ggovernor, The first Democrat elected in 20 years.

Amy acton has won in Ohio!

Amazing and awesome. Ohio finally a Dem Governor.

Whoa!

NBC has now projected TX for Talarico.

That brings the Senate to 50-50.

Uff da! Big flip there!

OK, I can now officially go to bed.

ramaswami is such a slime. He’s got to leave a trail when he’s wiggling under his rock. Go Amy Acton!

Imagine what it was like a hundred years ago when everything was by telegraph and for the results you had to wait for somebody to post a broadsheet at the office.

Ugh. AP just switched to Mike Johnson speaking who just said, “We don’t have a monarch.”

The irony it burns.

El-Sayed had said something recently about really connecting with voters during his trips to the UP. I thought he was being overly optimistic at the time, but I guess not!

Summary

It’s nice to see the big Dem wins but I don’t think this is any kind of generational recalibration of US politics. Rather, it’s simply more pendulum action… but this time it’s moving toward us! Hooray!

Except that, until we have 3 or more parties and a system that makes them all viable, we will only continue to play the see-saw game and never fully progress (or fully regress, I suppose).

Winning a big see-saw battle (like this one in 2026) is like a drug. It feels great and it feels historic and game-changing but it really never is. You get an outstanding temporary high but once it wears off you feel even worse. We need a true multi-party system.

I recall reading one of Harry Turtledove’s alternate history novels where Robert E. Lee is hunched over a telegraph ticker waiting to find out if he’s been elected president of the Confederacy.

This night is looking very good.

I have to stay up for El Sayed and Jocelyn Benson.

You could’ve waited a week before bringing everyone down. Let them have the win.

Decision Desk says Adam Hamilton has defeated Republican Roger Marshall in the Kansas Senate race

— they just called the House seat for R Tenney. 58.8 to 41.1 with 75.7% of votes in. Ah well, I knew I was dreaming. And looking at the overall balance I can still go to bed happy. Which I’ll need to do pretty soon, I’m falling asleep; though I may try to hang on till they call Texas.

As soon as they announce a Senate majority for Democrats, I’m gonna start cooking a batch of Tex-Mex beef enchiladas with chili gravy. Anybody want some?

Moderating

Again, keep this to election day. Find another thread for this type of post.
