USA is an expensive shithole. I went to a local doctor practice and asked in advance how much the cholesterol test will cost me? They told me $60 total. They did not inform me that there will be huge hospital lab charges involved. Weeks later no response with the test from doctor “practice” so I called them myself and they told me everything was fine.l I said how about a printed results? She said i can come and pick it up myself! They do not mail to me!? I picked up and it was all encyphered and abbreviated and I could not understand a thing. The “doctor” “practice” wanted me to pay another $60 to explain the results to me! I said no thank you. This doctor’s office screwed up my test results in the past badly and told me I was gonna die! Long story! So I called the phone on the lab test page or whatever and finally found someone there who could explain my cholesterol test results to me in HUMANE TERMS! Every doctor practive (98% cases) I was in the USA had some severe issues. USA medical “industry” is in the sewers and is expensive as hell! AVOID! Eat healthy instead!
If I wrote all my medical (mal)practice stories experienced by me in USA you would be very afraid to go get anything done in this country. Here’s one of them - my front teeth are now overlapping each other (looks really bad) - cause a dentist wanted to do a crown, but I wanted just to fix the chipped tooth which was only 1/8 chipped. So after I noticed the teeth overlapping the dentist told me if I ordered a crown instead then my teeth would not overlap. Also I clearly felt the dentist drilled the top of my lower tooth (healthy front tooth) just to damage it. The drill damage is visible and thankfully it did not begin rotting yet. It was not accidental as he did it for about 20-30 seconds right on the top middle edge of the tooth. You be the judge.
The problem is nothing is guaranteed, especially with denistry. You take your chances, the root canal won’t fail or the crown won’t fall off or the veneers won’t look stupid on you. I have known a three people with the same dentist that got veneers. Two look worse and one looks absolutely great. So there’s more to it then just physical condition I expect.
As for the lab, that’s about spot on. I had a similar test and the charge was $350.00.

I split these three posts from a zombie thread in GQ.
Lietuvis, please don’t revive old threads in GQ unless you’re adding new information that helps to answer the question. Either way, your posts were not appropriate for GQ, which is why I moved them here.
You may now continue your rant…

The OP joined a year ago, anticipating the total failure of the American Medical System to help him. Such foresight!
Last time I had blood work done (blood count, glucose, HIV, cholesterol and whatever else) I had the results available on a secure website 2 days later. I’m in California.
Same here, and I’m in Minnesota. Also, the range for “normal” on each test was listed beside each of my results. They were prefaced by a note from my doctor saying that everything looked good and that I had no need to schedule a follow-up.
I had my bloodwork done in January. Four phone calls to the doctors office and seven months later, no results. Received and paid the bill from the lab in January, though.:mad::mad:
Move to Mexico - things are a helluva lot cheaper there…
Here in California.
When I have blood drawn for test, the doctor’s office mails the results to me. The doctor will hand write notes about what the numbers mean and whether I should come in for a dicsussion and\or medication. There is no extra charge for this (at least, not that I see. The insurance company mey see something.)
You could always just donate blood. A lot of places include a complimentary cholesterol test and they mail you the easy to read results in a couple of weeks on a postcard.
