Usb 1.1

How can I tell if I have USB 1.1? Is there any difference from a design standpoint to USB 1.0? My machine is a PIII 500 running Windows 98. I have 2 USB ports that have worked fine with anything I’ve tried to connect to them (digital camera, printer) but the mp3 player I’m looking at says USB 1.1. Is it a driver upgrade? Is there a way I can test for this without laying down the big bucks?

Help

It should be 1.1 as 1.0 was never widespread. 2.0 is better but also not as widespread yet. Note that they are all backwards compatible so 1.1 will work with 1.0 at 1.0 speed. O would not be concerned by this.

USB 1.1 is a driver upgrade to 1.0

I`d pretty much guarantee that you have 1.1.

Hi bat,

If you owned a newer computer, I’d suggest you crack open your PC case and check out the motherboard. Might be good exercise anyway. Once you’ve found the identifying markers for the manufacturer (usually in white, printed right on the green board itself) and the product number, you’d be able to find its specs.

Due to the P3 500, it’s undoubtedly USB 1.0. According to usb.org, 1.1 devices are backward compatible to 1.0. Personally, I’d buy the MP3 player.

Oh, uh… hey. Is it a Creative MuVo?

Why would that be? I have seen P233 which were USB 1.1

Sorry, mistake. I really meant 1.x. Class 1, compared to 2.
