UserNamer(s) you almost went with

Shirley Ujest was a last minute inspiration for me. While struggling for something urbane and witty, I came up with several names that I liked, but didn’t *love *

General Absolution (as in Military guy AND Catholic Ritual in one.)
Lemon Harangue
Nick Solustig (anyone who speaks german can pick this one out as the basic phrase, " Not so funny or That’s not funny")

Mother Superior, but it seemed to be taken. The present name was a childhood memory blurp that occured while I sat trying desperately to think of some other user name…it’s okay, and I am not nearly motivated enough to change it, but it was something I pulled out of my ear at the last minute.

Folie a deux, but i’m not that crazy

There was a toss up with Fireflaw and this one. I don’t go for overly fancy names. Plus I just really like these ones. (I have a couple of RPG c’s named these names… Fire is a faery and Topaz is a water elemental)

Oat Willie. Sometimes I still wish I’d picked that one.

Ike, I never would have met you at the Algonquin if you’d been “Oat Willie.”

Me, I decided on “Flora McFlimsey,” from an old poem (is there anyone here old enough to remember when I went by that moniker, way back in the late Nineties?). Right afterwards, I wished I’d chosen “Penny Dreadful” instead.

Well, inspired by “Imthecowgodmoo,” I started to call myself “IBeDaHoSmackah” or “IBeDaMackDaddy,” but I didn’t think I could sustain those for long.

A much closer also-ran was “Straffer Jack,” from van der Post’s “A Bar of Shadow.”

Well, I tried to go with Democritus, but psycat wouldn’t let me. :frowning:

Oh, that’s not what you meant? Sorry.

I ama apparently the only person to go with my initial instinct. Heck, I never even considered another name. But, if I had, I may have chosen something along the lines of Hermoso Castor.

Sorry, old joke from Spanish class.

Well, loverock was already taken…

I’d thought briefly about Thucydides or Herodotus, but I didn’t want people thinking “Thoo-see-dye’ds?”, and Herodotus was kind of a wanker, so…

Actually, I did consider Mox Nix, but I don’t know enough German to sustain that sort of pun.

I was nearly Psycho, which was my other old nickname. But I decided I’d rather been seen as stupid than crazy here.

(Though I’m not sure that’s how it’s worked out, exactly…)

Rejects:

ABW - ???
BAW - sounds like I’m crying
BWA - sounds like an airport
WAB - short for “wabbit”?
WBA - Warner Bros. ?

My original (way back in the days of the dinosaur) online handle was “MrMax”. Urbane, masculine and with the vibe of excessive formality of my personal style.

I wanted to lurk in a chat room I frequented, so I adopted “SingleDad”. It got such a good response that I’ve kept it and have never been tempted to switch back.

** “Auntie Nym” **

I thought about using WallyM7 for a while. But then I read about this secret code for goat felchers, and it turns out that “WallyM7” really means “I prefer short-haired brown goats from Denmark”. I suspect they use these codes to avoid huge fights at the zoo or something.

So I chose Coldfire instead.

chocolate, apricot,butterscotch,watermelon, cinnamon…

For awhile, I had the nickname Sticky (I’m really skinny, and someone was trying to compare me to the supermodel Twiggy, but couldn’t think of the name and refered to her as Sticky) and I was thinking about using that, but it sounds so dirt and I hate explaining it. But it would get me more attention. . .
