Shirley Ujest was a last minute inspiration for me. While struggling for something urbane and witty, I came up with several names that I liked, but didn’t *love *
General Absolution (as in Military guy AND Catholic Ritual in one.)
Lemon Harangue
Nick Solustig (anyone who speaks german can pick this one out as the basic phrase, " Not so funny or That’s not funny")
Mother Superior, but it seemed to be taken. The present name was a childhood memory blurp that occured while I sat trying desperately to think of some other user name…it’s okay, and I am not nearly motivated enough to change it, but it was something I pulled out of my ear at the last minute.
There was a toss up with Fireflaw and this one. I don’t go for overly fancy names. Plus I just really like these ones. (I have a couple of RPG c’s named these names… Fire is a faery and Topaz is a water elemental)
Ike, I never would have met you at the Algonquin if you’d been “Oat Willie.”
Me, I decided on “Flora McFlimsey,” from an old poem (is there anyone here old enough to remember when I went by that moniker, way back in the late Nineties?). Right afterwards, I wished I’d chosen “Penny Dreadful” instead.
I ama apparently the only person to go with my initial instinct. Heck, I never even considered another name. But, if I had, I may have chosen something along the lines of Hermoso Castor.
My original (way back in the days of the dinosaur) online handle was “MrMax”. Urbane, masculine and with the vibe of excessive formality of my personal style.
I wanted to lurk in a chat room I frequented, so I adopted “SingleDad”. It got such a good response that I’ve kept it and have never been tempted to switch back.
I thought about using WallyM7 for a while. But then I read about this secret code for goat felchers, and it turns out that “WallyM7” really means “I prefer short-haired brown goats from Denmark”. I suspect they use these codes to avoid huge fights at the zoo or something.
For awhile, I had the nickname Sticky (I’m really skinny, and someone was trying to compare me to the supermodel Twiggy, but couldn’t think of the name and refered to her as Sticky) and I was thinking about using that, but it sounds so dirt and I hate explaining it. But it would get me more attention. . .
