On some BBSes, the name Johnny Angel is already taken. On those, I use the handle Frankie Machine. Two tachyon smacks to anybody who thinks this is a reference to a teeny-bopper vocal group.
ChiefWahoo, respect noted.
Flora, er, Eve, I do remember that old name. How surprised I was when I found out you were a shapely white lady. I always envisioned Ms. McFlimsey as a 60ish slightly overweight southern black lady who wore white gloves, huge floppy hats with flowers in them, and tattered old dresses.
As for me, I’ve always been Homer, or some derivation of it.

I was going to go with Denali or Antigone, but both of those seem too intelligent and considering that I’m really an idiot I thought naming myself after a breakfast cereal seemed about right. (By the way it was spelled with a W not a U originally!!)
I had a lot of other names in mind, but if I would have used them how would you guys know it was me?
I’m still not sure about “evernewbie”.
What if I turn into a curmudgeon? Won’t I have to switch to EverOldbie?
When I first played in this internetty universe type place, I tried ‘Avenger’. Because when I was a teen, I created this nickname - Septic Avenger.
Well, Avenger is just too darn common. So I tried ‘PigeonMan’ and surprisingly others use that too, especially if they’re birdlovers.
GuanoLad is particularly good, because nobody else in the whooooooole galaxy uses it. Anywhere.
Except for that weird guy down the street who keeps shitting on my windshield…
Like I said. Nobody else!
My first choice was actually Bulbasaur, but that name was taken.
almost went with mksoccer, but i figured i’d try abel first.
Went with this because i was having a retro day with The Clash and it’s where i am.
Did think of Blimey!Limey!, considered something like Cyber Tooth Tigger (not tiger but Winnie The Pooh… “The wonderful thing about tiggers is tiggers are wonderful things…”). Kind of like James Bondage but think it might distact from the message.
My possibles:
[li]montanan: Where I live[/li][li]Godel: I like his work[/li][li]Postfreak: I dunno, sounded good at the time[/li][li]C-MAN: I use that nick almost everywhere else. It has quite a reputation on some BBSs ;)[/li][li]QuantumMan: Hey, I like QM (Quantum Mechanics, not to be confused with PM, Popular Mechanics), what can I say?[/li][li]Jack: HEEERE’S JOHNNY![/li]
I had a decision to make, so I chucked that list and went with Derleth, after August Derleth, someone who collaborated with Lovecraft a few times. Kind of obscure, but I didn’t want kneejerk reactions to my nick interfering with kneejerk reactions to my posts.
Well, I was pretty stuck on thinking of a name, and I was going to do TheMaTrixAreForKids, But I decided no one would get it and it was too long. I’m glad I did not pick that one, but I recently found out someone else is Rosebud and we have almost the same name oh well
I used my real name signing up.
I hadn’t really seen anybody else’s name, just jumped from the “Ask Cecil yourself” thread to signup.
Once I asked my question (which Cecil never even saw apparently) I looked around waiting a day for my answer.
Then realized I was the only one with a real name, and these posers were throwing spitballs at me. I felt like trowing something back, but not on my real name.
For a while it was going to be ‘whoopiecat’. You know, from the Led Zepplin song.
But I have other uses for that name and was going to settle for some form of ‘willie’, short for William, my middle name which many people in real life call me. Then I considered ‘wise-ass’ and ‘you bastard’ - which also get my attention.
I suddenly realized that here in this forum, I could have a whole new start on life, and came up with ‘honkytonkwillie’.
I does everything I want it too. It carries such rich imagery and panache. And people often (correctly, I might add) associate my moniker with stunningly good looks, incredible depths of knowledge and unfailing modesty.
Some folks mistakenly believe I wear Wrangler jeans and cowboy boots and rope cows. Nothing is further from the truth.
Of course I was Michael Masterson, i’m still not sure why I chose Silo. Believe it of not I was gonna go with Satan, but some doof already had that name ;). Maybe I shoulda went with Proton–I kinda like that name. Well–i’m just gonna stay the way I am.
Well, I’ve pretty much always been Jo3sh, even back in my old BBS days. When I first got a modem, though, I was Slowfood on two BBSes for about three weeks before I changed to Jo3sh. And it’s been downhill ever since.
“wolfboy” as that is what one of my computer gurus calls me.
UpperOsip was my former name, but it made no sense to people who didn’t know the joke, so I just started using Osip. Now I have 2 names. Or 3, I forget. Like it matters.
