We got the damn thing open without using power tools, though it did take a hammer and screwdriver to get a slit in the skin, then we bagged it up, took it outside onto the bricks, and spiked it like a football. 3 or 4 slams and it was in chunks.
Then we roasted it, and scraped out the flesh, which is currently in the fridge.
Tomorrow, I trot out the food mill that I bought years ago to make grape pies and used twice, and I turn it into MUSH.
Then what?
Do I need to drain it over cheesecloth like I’ve seen suggested with fresh “regular” pumpkin?
Also, any “different” things to do with it? We can always make the standard pumpkin custard and tofu pumpkin pies, but it might be fun to try something different with it. By golly, the whole family had to collaborate on the kill and we want to have a tribal feast with it.
