Say I want to E-mail a Microsoft Word file to someone and say I’m in a place where my laptop doesn’t have an internet connection, but my Iphone gets a signal. Is there any way I can put the file on the Iphone and then E-mail it from the phone?
Yes, the app “Files” (not the free “Files Lite”) from Olive Toast software will let you do this.
You would need to create an ad-hoc network on your laptop, and then connect the iPhone to it.
Then you would use the Files App to transfer the file from the laptop to the iPhone, and from there you would be able to send it over 3G.
Or, you could just bite the bullet and pay for tethering.
Thanks!
How does Files transfer files from computer to phone?
Since you didn’t specify, I’ll assume you have a Mac. Go to the Apple>System Preferences>Network>Airport> Network Name: Create Network
This will allow you to set up a network such that your iPhone can join it. (i.e. the two of them have their own little internet so they can communicate and send information back and forth.) I don’t know the Files program, but presumably this is the first step. I don’t know what kind of client works on your Mac to allow Files access.
You may want to try something else, but I don’t know if it will work. On your Mac in Mail, start a new Note and put the Word document in the Note. Sync your iPhone via USB, Notes syncs with the Notes in mail and there is an option to mail a Note in the Notes app on your iPhone. I don’t know if attachments will sync however.
Um , depending on the app, the iphone will show up in your explorer for want of a better name, as a storage device. Simply drag and drop. The app will most likely be sandboxed, so your gonna have to do the reverse to get the file to the computer that you want it to go to.
