Using laptop with projector when it's set up for dual displays?

Tomorrow I need to use my Dell Latitude D600 laptop to give a talk using PowerPoint on Windows XP Pro. In the past this has been fine, but since the last talk I set the laptop up to use a docking station and run two displays, with the laptop screen being the primary display and a desktop monitor being the secondary display. That is, the way I normally use the laptop is with the dock and the extra display - I didn’t mean to change how it works for presenting.

Can I undock the laptop and use it in the normal way? That is, using it without the docking station, by plugging the laptop video port into the podium and using Fn-F8, and then calling every IT and support person within earshot and looking foolish in front of the audience for 20 minutes while they mutter about everything working fine last time. BTW I’m always about 45 minutes early and try everything I can before talk time, but there’s always some reason this isn’t good enough.

Or do I additionally have to reconfigure out of the dual display mode and then going back into it after the talk?

Thanks!

I use dual-displays with projectors but I always have to Disable and Re-enable the “Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor” before the projector initializes as a second screen after I undock

If I remember correctly, you can press FN-F4 on the Dell’s keyboard to switch among laptop display only, external display only or both. You can test this now by undocking and using the desktop monitor as if it were the projector.
