Laptop and projector problem "Help Please"

I have a Pent. 4 L T Win. XP and Epson video projector.
I use Power Point and want to run the show in “presenter mode”
I had never done this before and the selection automatically took me to the Display Settings tab from the CP.
I did the process just as the help menu directed and i now have monitor 1 & 2,
Now the problem is the projector is Monitor 1 and the lap top display is Monitor 2 and I have restored through system restore and tried again and again. I followed MS online Help and did everything according to their instructions and still have the same problem.
I am sure I want Monitor 1 to be my lap top.

Any help would be greatly Appreciated
Thank You

I don’t think there’s no harm in having the primary display be #2…other than feelings of inadequacy from the screen.

Here- How To Configure and Use Multiple Monitors in Windows XP

On my XP machine I can drag the monitors to the positions I want as well as designate which one should be the primary. I can also do the same on my Vista laptop. I happen to have an NVIDIA video card in each.

I can right click on the desktop and choose the NVIDIA control panel, then choose “set up multiple displays”

The setup is similar on my work notebook PC running XP, except for the NIVIDIA part.

Hope this helps a little.

Thanks for the responses,
I have rearranged the 2 monitors several ways, and set #2 as the primary monitor but my desktop will stay on the #1(projector).

I read that if I was to set up Dualview mode, The lap top monitor must be primary. I have looked into how to do that and haven’t had any luck doing it on mine.

Thanks Astro,
That is exactly the place i was at before this thread was started. They tell to ID witch monitor is witch and no mater what i do the projector is #1.

I want this presenters mode to run with my notes on my laptop and the slide on the wall. The way its working I need the wall for me :smack:

I have tried to get into my BIOS and haven’t succeeded, My Son-in-law(another confused computer school graduate)(he used this computer in school)(but it was mine) :smack: put a password in and it just doesn’t open holding F2 (says on screen) or F8 The screen goes to password and no BIOS comes up.

I have it working!
I think i was hung up on the Monitor 1 and 2 thing, but I have results(after 2 full days ). Anyway i caught the make this monitor(#2) the default one long enough to select it and now I am in business.
Now I have to run a DVD on it and make sure it works that way.

Thank’s all for the help
Gregor

have it working W/ Power Point, But now I am unable to show a DVD on the projector, I guess its back to the drawing board.
Or How do I now toggle between monitors? i went back into power point and un checked presenters mode and i still don’t have video on the projector

Most software DVD players have resolution output controls. Make sure the resolution parameters of the player’s output matches what your projector can display. If it’s too high and you will get nothing.

Most notebooks also have a hardware monitor switch where you can hold the function key and press the monitor key icon and the output will switch.

On my laptops (Dell) you hit FN +F8 to switch between display devices. It is not necessary to configure them in display properties.
So if you started with the laptop screen on and the projector blank pressing FN+F8->both laptop and projector show->pressing FN+F8->just projector shows, laptop blank->pressing FN+F8-> it goes back to laptop screen only.
As far as the DVD goes, on some laptops I have used, a video would not show on the projector if the laptop screen was on, on others it did not make a difference. So try turning off the laptop display.

My FN -F8 is a volume function.
I just ran restore and back to original (pre-dual monitor mode), My DVD pays fine now on both LCD Display and projector simultaneously. That is a must.
When i had Power Point functioning in presenter mode Lap top 2nd and projector #1 i could drag the DVD onto the projector, But as soon as i maximized the screen it was right back on my L-T. I tried every Fn-F2-F9 and i got nothing. I am back to “My laptop need to be #1” Why should that be so hard to figure out

Can something like that be set up??

Per what Rick mentioned almost all notebooks have a function + icon key combo that will switch the output in three sequences -

1: notebook LCD screen > 2: external device output (notebook screen goes black) > 3: both LCD and external device output displaying at the same time.

You hold down the function key usually labeled F or Fn and then press the F key at the top of the keyboard that has the monitor screen icon picture. Sometimes this feature is defeated in BIOS and you need to restore the video switching capability in BIOS before this feature will be active.

My problem might be deeper rooted.
I have had it restored(re-formatted) 2 times after warranty
by local shops, and a computer school. There are buttons on here that do not work. Like 4 quick access buttons (one is system default browser next is e-mail, and the next 2 are user defined. and are suppose to define using the supplied control panel).
I find no way of defining these buttons.
I am thinking the installed operating system wasn’t set up correctly.
This is a “Twin Head” model 8750
I had the Mother board replaced in warranty after a meltdown running an old LCD projector. then a virus kicked the crud out of it, and it wasn’t properly reconfigured. Then the tech school to re-format.
I guess i should be happy i can play a game of spider on it Hey

The video switching is BIOS mediated and tied via hardware to the F keys. OS issues will typically not prevent the key press controlled video switching functionality from working. If you are locked out the BIOS via password and the BIOS has defeated video swithing you are SOL

To be honest I’m really not fully understanding your replies or your current problem. I looked for a manual for your notebook, but I cant’ find a Twinhead model 8750 even on the Twinhead download site.

OK my problem is;

When I activate a second monitor on my “display” “settings” tab and then click on “Identify” The number 1 appears on my projector(the wall) and the Number 2 appears on my Laptop display.
In Church this AM, I did the Identify on display-settings and the laptop there is # 1 and the projector(wall screen) is #2. and things work just fine, that is what i am looking for.
However at Church the AV tech said they did have issues with running video’s and dealt with that with a switch panel and stand alone DVD player and VCR players.
I have a built in DVD and that is what I am going to use. I will forgo the dual monitor issue to keep that function.

And I have my twinhead owners manual.
And I did access my BIOS (i wasn’t tapping the F2 just holding it down)But i do not see anything in the BIOS related??
Thanks Astro and others

This is certainly how it used to be, but on my latest laptop it seems to be software driven. Because I don’t have the relevant software (thanks, Tech guys!) my Fn-F7 combo does not work, and I instead have to manage it via the Intel video card software. It may be that a manufacturer-supplied utility is needed to enable the relevant buttons.

Video/DVD and dual-ouput presenting is just a recipe for misery, IME. Most places either go with a separate dedicated player (in lecture theatres, etc.) or else just use the ‘clone’ mode to shovel everything to the projector and laptop screen identically.

I think you are correct.
Its more of a pipe dream to have things convenient. I bought the Laptop w/DVD just to make everything simple, Silly Me Hey!
I know there is someone who can explain why/how the numbers ! & 2 on display and projector can be changed. or why they are wrong.
Thanks

Ah, we’ll most likely get there in the end, it will just be a faff. I can’t find any mention of a Twinhead 8750 anywhere either. Is there possibly another model no or name it might be known as?

My thinking is that usually you can get a piece of software from whoever manufactured the graphics chip (be it s3, nvidia, Intel or whoever) that will let you choose how to output and in what order, as suggested by GaryM. For instance if I left-click on the screen icon in my taskbar, the Intel software offers me some menus where I can navigate Graphics Options->Output To -> and then offers me a list of all the different combinations, including Monitor + Notebook (what you are currently getting) and Notebook + Monitor (what you want).

Is there any indication what graphics chipset you have?

This handy little diagnostic utility will read out the all the hardware specs of the machine including the model, motherboard and the graphics chipset + lots of other stuff.

Click on the “Download BELARC Advisor” box.

I have the Belarc on the computer and it dosn’t show the model.
I called the support for twin Head(gammaTech) and they couldn’t help me as my unit is 5 years old. All i could get out of that call was a transfer to the sales department as its about time i get a new one :smack:

I do not see a m screen icon on my task bar.
I plugged my desk top monitor into the laptop and same results, but I conclude that if i were to use a desk top display i sure would want it to be # 1. But not on a projector.

The chip set is SiS 650 Reg 00
Dac type Internal
Mem size 32MB
adapter string SiS compatible VGA
Bios Info 1.11.07
On the Belarc list my Display=

SiS 650_651_M650_M652_740 [Display adapter]
Default Monitor

Thanks

On the manufacturer’s sticker on the underside of the notebook. What specifically does it say? List everything that might relate to a serial # or model #.
