I don’t know how to link to the thread on my phone, but I started a thread about a debate I was having on Facebook about automobile pollution and clean energy. In that debate, I combatted a meme with another meme.
The poster Chronos said: “Don’t argue in cartoons. Argue in numbers.”
My question; Is this always the case? Some people’s eyes glaze over when you argue using numbers, and some may benefit with from an illustration of the point you’re trying to make. Of course memes have limitations. I understand that numbers are specific, but if you have a picture that illustrates your point, what’sit matter? Maybe it’s ‘lazy’ to some, but fighting ignorance is a HUGE endeavor.
The time it takes to post a meme that makes your point, than digging around for specific numbers, (when you’re a guy who doesn’t know where to find said numbers,) while speaking to someone who may not be able to understand or picture the actual quantitative implications of those numbers, it’s just much easier.
There’s a lot of stupid out there, and the takes a lot of time to go looking up specific things that that you’re unaware of because you trust people who know more on the subject than you. It’s good to learn, but it’s time consuming. Some people understand graphs better than numbers listed.
