So i mailed my insurance payment on Dec. 22, in the past it usually takes 2-3 days to get to the destination and on the 4th the check is cashed.
As of today, the check still has not been cashed, and it is due on the 4th.
Did the holiday rush really create that much of a backlog of mail?
Even accounting Christmas Eve and Day as non-mail days, my check has been in their hands for 6 business days.
What should i do?
It could be due to the Christmas backlog. Or, it could be due to the office mail backlog because so many people are out around this season. If you’re really worry, call your insurance company and tell them that you’ve mailed off your payment.
Bet it probably will get their and be processed by the January 4, and everything will be okay.
Mail actually runs on Christmas Eve and it is one of the busiest days of the year for the post office (assuming Christmas Eve doesn’t fall on a Sunday.) As a side note Express Mail can actually be delivered on Christmas Day, which is something most people do not seem to realize.
Don’t know where you are geographically, but the severe snowstorm that affected much of the East coast also delayed mail transit. Here in NYC, there was no pickup or delivery for a few days, and as truck traffic was also impacted presumably even mail in transit had some delays. And, for a couple of days mass transit was a mess, leaving many people unable to get to work. That included, no doubt, some people who were supposed to be sorting and processing mail.
At least that’s how I’m keeping myself from being too worried about the fact that the fat check I should have received on Thursday or Friday still hasn’t arrived. I’m giving it a few extra days, because of both the scheduled holiday disruptions and the unanticipated weather-related problems.
Oh, and also… a client of mine does a lot of check processing. Because of the snowfall’s disruption of mass transit, neither of the two staffers who are supposed to do that could get to work on Monday or Tuesday. So everything was processed a couple of days late, on Wednesday. Could be the same thing at your insurance company’s office, I suppose.
I say that the Christmas rush and weather has a lot to do with influencing the moving of the mail …
• 2 days = Bakersfield, CA to Cleveland, OH normally
• 8 days = Bakersfield, CA to Cleveland, OH during the Christmas rush and the rains in CA.
