Utterly insane traffic accident

Red Light Runner Launched Into the Air, BARELY Misses Pedestrian
The title doesn’t give away the ending. It’s short, everything happens in the first 30 seconds.

First of all, Jesus F’ing H. Christ!
Second of all, thank God for cat-like reflexes.
Third of all, when that white car rolls into frame …

JFC is right. Wow!

Yow.

Lucky nobody followed that one up with a heart attack!

I’ve seen that clip a bunch. It happened several years ago. It would be better if the white car drove off with the other car.

I would imagine visibility might be a problem. And braking.

And paying for two on the toll roads.

On the other hand, car pool lanes.

Just don’t take your dual-mobile under the infamous 8’11" bridge.

Somehow that pic reminded me of the vids of killer whales that like to wear salmon as hats. Pointless and hard to keep on. But oh so stlyish.

Trying to be serious for a moment …
I don’t think the ped actually did anything by starting to run. Good idea, but I think the hurtling wreck would’ve missed him by enough even if he’d never noticed anything amiss until it swept past him. Woulda been close though; real close.

I used to have a vid somebody sent me, so no url for you. I can’t find it now to review, so I probably threw it away in one or another computer changeover but as best I recall …

Two young men are talking on a city street corner in some non-US country. One guy has a motorcycle parked just in the street. Other guy is about to get on the bike just as an approaching family wagon sorta thing loses control, goes careening out of control through where the bike is sitting and the guy had almost gotten to, takes out a utility pole, slides to a stop sideways a couple hundred feet away back in the roadway. Then a couple seconds elapse and the van thing bursts into flame.

Neither guy is touched, but had he taken another step towards the bike or already been seated, he’d simply have been a smear on the side of the van. As it did unfold, the motorcycle was total wreckage.

Up until the fire starts it seems like a totally realistic happenstance video of a very close call. The fire starting just seems too improbably Hollywood. This was long enough ago it could not be the product of AI and none of it looked faked. It might have been an outtake from a movie but I rather doubt it.

Anyhow, I kept that vid for years as a reminder that standing as a ped on a city street corner waiting as e.g. 2 lanes of 45 mph traffic going by seems safe enough. It’s certainly ordinary enough.

But any one of those cars could deviate into where you’re standing with just a second’s warning. Moral of that story: Stand well back from the curb and keep your eyes on all the approaching traffic from all directions all the time. If you spend any time walking in cities, you’ll see that damned near nobody does that ever, much less always.

The fact that someone was filming two random dudes talking on a street corner when the Hollywood improbable happened just squares the Hollywood improbable.

I was nearly taken out walking on my gravel road. By a…Deer.

I call myself a watcher. I try to be all eyes, all the time. Comes from minding my children on my own.

But that Deer came out of the air.

Can’t see all.

(So close I could smell the Deer)

I said “holy fucking shit”. Crazy, crazy, crazy.

And yes, that guy strolling had the cross signal so luckily he still avoided that shit. My wife had a crossing signal and got ran over. People on these boards complain about cyclist and e-bike riders riding irresponsibly, but they should reserve all complaints to the 2000+ lb death-mobiles that kill and maim so many pedestrians and cyclists every year. If you were to put up a balance scale with serious injuries and deaths of peds/cyclists due to vehicles vs human’ish powered vehicles, the scale would break. Yet, we still have so many threads complaining about human powered (and e-assisted) vehicles causing issues. I can’t remember the last time we had one about the real killers of humans.

Wow - incredible no one seriously hurt.
:+1:
Reminds me of taking my son to school one morning, was talking to him and heard a bang. We were on a single lane rural road stopped at a light crossing a much used four lane rural highway.
Looked up and a car with the right of way, had slammed at speed into the left turner …good old physics… transfer of energy.

The left turning car coasted slowly to a stop right beside my van as if it was parking. Driver was out cold. I could see down to the driver, the car had coasted into the left turn lane spot. :scream:
Other car coasted into a telephone poll quite gently across the road on my right
The two cars had split trajectories, exchanged a lot of energy leaving my van untouched.

Bit of explaining to the cops as to how the car got to the spot beside me as it looked like he driver had parked it there was so nicely aligned.
Thanks for post …that was wild.

Is this a spot for story telling of accidents? I have two crazy ones that occurred over 60 years of driving …
one 32 cars involved, the other the strangest solo event evah.

If you mean the forum/category, yes.

thanks

Did it have a red nose?

OMG! Did the pedestrian get hit? Did the driver of the T-boned car survive or any passengers?

According to this article, there were no reported injuries.

Well then, let’s hear it for modern safety features in cars. I suppose for the SUV hit in the intersection being built like a tank was big help too.

Conveniently, all three vehicles are in the same general size / weight class. If one of them had been e.g. a Mazda Miata (or a motorcycle) the accident dynamics would have been very different.
