If I may speculate, we’re less sensitive to images of starving children because we see these images far more often.

I might be able to hide my emotional response to empathetic images, but I’m not sure I could hide my emotional reaction to loud glaring sounds. I thought the scene with the baby was kind of dumb because, even if you hate babies and are glad when they are feeling tortured, it’s a loud glaring sound, and that by itself is enough to attract attention or pique curiosity. OTOH humans are exposed to lots of fictional drama, so they might shrug off images easier than Vs if they don’t have dramatic entertainment…
