Is it Sprite?
I really, really need some SPOOFE points.

Congrats, you scored ten SPOOFE points… and here, have another twenty just because I’m in a good mood.
I’ve never tried V8. I do, however, have a deep and abiding love of Clamato. Mmm, Clamato. Truly the finest tomato and clam beverage ever devised by man.
(Incidentally, I don’t like tomatos, and I cannot stand any form of sea-food, but especially not clams, the phlegm-nugget of the high seas. Yet puree them into liquid and pour it into a cool glass, and I’m in hog heaven.)
No, no, no people! Behold, I shall educate you:
-1 big glass
-1 small can V-8
-2 or 3 shakes of tobasco sauce
-1 can of beer (good beer… not dark, though!)
Combine. Guzzle. Enjoy!
FWIW, I used to love V-8 straight, but can’t drink it that way now… Astrogirl got into my V-8 stash a few years ago, and tried it for the first time… “EWWWW! It tastes like watered-down ketchup!!!”
I haven’t been able to get the picture out of my mind since then!
Mmmm, V-8 is the best! When I was a pregnant, I used to crave it, and a tuna salad sandwich – for breakfast! Cold though, warm is just, well, wrong.
I’m logging off and going to 7-11 for V-8, Tobasco and beer right now
This just sounds too good, I gotta try it.
Use V8 instead of water in your next stew, it does make it much better. Also, try one small jalapeno diced in it for an extra kick.
Serve the V-8 chilled in a bowl on the patio and tell your guests it’s gazpacho.
Thea-I think Pibb is a product of Coca-Cola, not Pepsi.
Astro- You’re describing “Red Beer” or “Tomato Beer,” a grand old Midwestern tradition.
I used to like V8. but the last time I bought it I just could not stand to drink it… it my be the celery taste or something, or maybe it’s because it was cold and I do think it is better warm…
Mr. pibb is a coke product. and to me it tastes better than D. pepper. for some reason I find pepsi products to be flat and bitter and coke to be fizzier and well just better… I guess it’s a good thing there are two different companies.
Indeed I am! Though I’ve never heard the term “Tomato Beer” before… I always heard it called “Red Beer”.
Thea, tell us how you liked it! I’m gonna have to go hit the black market store soon and get some V-8… not commonly available here in Seoul.
Astroboy
I like it, I like it!
I made one for my mom and she liked it too (although for her I had to use less Tobasco- she doesn’t like spicy stuff). We both agreed that we like a slightly higher V-8 to beer ratio than the recipie calls for, though.
Yum!
(this would be a great frat-party dirnk, BTW. Can you imagine those college boys drinking themselve so drunk they forget what they’re drinking, then puking red?)
A guy I know from Iowa (seems fairly Midwestern) likes to take his red beer with a sprinkle of celery salt.
Thea - Red beer would probably be a fantastic frat-party drink (I see it mostly consumed in bowling alleys).
Standard Pilsner runs what? 5% alcohol?
That means a glass of red beer would be cut to around 2 1/2%?
This might allow the frats to actually party, rather than pass out.
I’m only saying this because we’re all friends, and I think you all should know.
[sub]I like V8.[/sub]
There, I said it.
I don’t have it often- actually, I’ve only had it once or twice in the past year. I don’t even like tomatoes very much. Something about V8, though, calls to me.
ESPECIALLY Tabasco V8. Yum.
I loooove V8. With Tobasco and Worchestershire sauces added liberally.
Ironically, I had the OPs reaction to regular tomato juice on a plane once (they were out of Bloody Mary mix), and have hated it since.
I prefer ice cold Orange Juice for breakfast, but I drink V8 now and then, it’s Good Stuff. It’s great as a beef stew stock, and makes the very best bloody mary base, too.
I buy it in the can, though. The metallic/irony taste is part of the allure. I have a couple stashed, as I’m assuming that sooner or later, canned V8 will become extinct.

Oh, God, I totally agree. Once, in my house, after having already had two or three cans of Diet Coke that evening, I decided to try to be healthy, and snagged a can of V8 that was sitting, room-temperature, behind the bar downstairs.
One word: BLECH!
It was salty, nasty, pasty, purified crap. I ended up immediately backwashing into the can, then walking over to the utility sink and pouring it down there. How much goddamn salt in IN that stuff, anyway?!
Like V8, Clamato and clam juice are both really good for stews that use fish in them, as well. I certainly can’t imagine what anyone would use plain clam juice for other than that, at any rate.
V8 seems like something I should drink because I’m a vegetarian, but I just haven’t bought any. For the Red Beer - any recommendations on the beer type? Just your favorite or are any types better/worse than others? I assume that something like Guinness is out, for instance.
My good man, good beer does not come in cans!
Or from the US of A.
