Va Governor

Hello party people!

I was wondering how many of you people out there had an opinion on the Virginia Governor election. I live in Va and quite frankly I wasn’t impressed either way with either of the candidate. I was wondering if anyone thought that Earley would have been more effective if he appeared in more tv spots. I remember seeing Warner’s face all over my television but I can’t think of many tv spots of Earley’s that actually showed his face. Mainly they were attacking Warner.
I’m wondering if this had any effect on the outcome. I’m also wondering about peoples reactions to the election.

I have to say that Mark Warner’s teeth are too white, and Redpath looks like a college professor.

So I guess it’s the other guy. Earley? Yeah, he’ll do.

I belatedly realize that the election was yesterday. I go look it up on CNN.

Well, hey! The guy with too many teeth won. Howzabout that?

As an expatriate Virginian, I think the right guy won. Gov. Gilmore pretty much lied to keep car-tax repeal on track: each phase of the repeal wasn’t supposed to happen unless certain budgetary conditions were met, and Virginia didn’t meet them, but Gilmore shoved through the next phase anyway, over the objections of many in his own party (GOP). He had to resort to various financial shenanigans to make it temporarily appear that the conditions had been met, and the result has been a substantial budget deficit, despite having already instituted meat-cleaver spending cuts in the Commonwealth’s budget.

Can you say “cutting taxes is a religion with some people”?

Earley was behind Gilmore all the way, and ran on keeping full speed ahead on the car tax repeal. Not to mention, he was against allowing No.Va. voters a referendum to decide if they wanted to tax themselves (a proposed 0.5% sales tax increase) to pay for transportation improvements to ease gridlock in the area.

I was definitely pro-Warner the entire way. Earley ran a very dirty campaign.

YES!!! WOO HOO!

'Course, Warner is a friend of my dad’s, so I’m kinda biased.

I think this is just a plot to find out which dopers live in VA, therefore I refuse to post a relevant opinion.

[sub]But how could anyone resist voting for a dem in good ol’ Virginny?[/sub]

And there was much rejoicing in the land! I couldn’t bear the thought of living (and working)for Earley.

Earley didn’t even carry his home city of Chesapeake, and he failed to carry Henrico County (home city of Governor Gilmore and one of the most die-hard Republican localities in the state (translation: the world)). Why Earley took the stance he did on the NoVA tax referendum I’ll never be able to fathom. That took incredible stones.

Our Executive Director (an appointee of George Allen) didn’t even bother to come to work today. We’re guessing he’s at Kinkos printing up resumes.
