Hey, come to Kentucky. We’ve got lots of hiking, camping and canoeing. Try the Red River Gorge area. It’s gorgeous, lots of natural arches. Here’s a canoeing place I’ve used near Cumberland Falls State Park: Sheltowee Trace Outfitters. There are others. The camping/hiking/rock climbing people are pretty social. You could hook up with a group, I’m sure.
You can also tour around the horse farm area, which is free and pretty. Or take a guided tour, and spend the day at the horse park. If you like horses. If you like racing, wait and come in October and you can go to Keeneland, a very traditional looking and lovely track here in Lex.
How about a trip out to the Royal Peacock Opal Mine for a working vacation? Nevada, fee digging for opals, what you find you can keep. They have an RV park or cabins [not sure if you can get a reservation at such short notice though :(] and it would be a bit different than the normal vacation suggestions
[I have a buddy that is a rockhound and he knew I love opals and suggested it as a vacation a few years back]
