Anyone been to Kernville and Lake Isabella in California? I’m looking for recommendations for places to stay and things to do other than river rafting. As for river rafting (that’s a definite on the schedule), any recommendations for outfits that can do a guided river rafting tour thing?
The biggest problem I’ve run into in trying to book this is that most places in Kernville require a two night stay during the summer, and we can only stay one night. I don’t want to have to spend twice as much for a hotel if I can avoid it.
Thanks for any help!
Maybe I should have called this thread something else:
My cat wants to go river rafting in Kernville/Lake Isabella area – with pictures!!
Tell me about Kernville/Lake Isabella or I kill this cute little puppy – with pictures!!
I could put it in GD:
Tom DeLay resigns to go river rafting in Kernville/Lake Isabella – who will replace him?
Could a river rafter from Kernville/Lake Isabella get elected POTUS?

If LOTR had been filmed in Kernville/Lake Isabella…
Should I ask Kevin Bacon to join me for river rafting in Kernville/Lake Isabella?
The lack of responses is probably answer enough: there’s not much to do in Kernville!
As for hotels, the few I’ve been in have been pretty much the same: cinder-block bunkers.
And I hear ya on the two night booking; I’ve been screwed with that one before.
I’ve rafted the Kern river, but I can’t remember the name of the outfit we used. At the time, there were two big outfits that had camps at the end of the run (you would take a bus upriver to put in). I will try to dig up the name.
I have also used Whitewatervoyages (.com) on other rivers, and was very pleased. I also know they do one day trips.
Other than rafting and probably fishing, there really isn’t all that much I know of to do in that area.
