Vacationing in the Outer Banks

Little bit o’ backgroundL: Yo!, born and raised in Philly here…spend many a day at “The Jersey Shore”, and live in South Jersey now. Been 'round the globe, but still appreciate the Jersey shore towns, etc.

Some friends and I were wondering about vacationing in the Outer Banks with the familes…couple of kids each, 4-8 in ages.

So, anybody got feedback about an Outer Banks vacation? Family places…the feel/nuances and such that someone looking from the outside can’t pick up on?

Kind of place you rent at house at, enjoy the beaches, fish…etc?

Any feedback = much appreciated!

Here’s a recent thread with a lot of good info:

We took our kids and rented a house many moons ago…so things may have changed a lot. Our house was about smack in the middle. We lost electicity a couple times, all the locals said that was common…but it was never for long.
At the time the further from Kitty Hawk, the more remote…so if you have kids who can’t entertain themselves…better stay closer to the more touristy areas such as Kitty Hawk. Where we were it was pretty much the beach…which was enough for us. We did take a day trip to Kitty Hawk and that was fun.

Like I said…that was a long time ago…but kids seem to have such a need these days to be entertained. Give me a beach and book!

The Outer Banks are awesome. About as laid back as you can get and still have stuff to do. The fishing is wonderful. As far as places to stay, if you’re looking for somewhere near the beach (across the street, with a private beach access), a low cost, and super clean rooms and efficiencies, I highly recommend http://www.buccaneermotelouterbanks.com/ .
