I have a Dyson DC24. Recently I spilled a bunch of dry cat kibble on the carpet. So I vacuumed it up, but when I was done I was amazed to see that the canister was empty!
Now the machine produces no suction at all. I know that it’s blocked somewhere.
If you take the canister off, there are two holes that lead down to where the brush is, and empty into the canister. I assume this is the path the detritus takes off of the carpet. I have run some good stuff wire all the way through these passages, and nothing comes out.
I can’t figure out where else it could be blocked. Anyone?
I have a very similiar model. These Dysons are not too hard to repair/unclog.
- Pull up the wand and see if you have any suction
- Try removing the cannister and check for visable blockage.
- Check the filter in the ball. Probably needs a cleaning anyway.
- Google it on YouTube for how to clear clogs from your model.
I don’t have a Dyson, but I’ve got 3 vacuums of different brands in the house (four, with the wet/dry vac), and they’re all pretty easy to service/fix. There really isn’t that much to a vacuum cleaner - you can disassemble them completely and put them back together, if you’ve got the time and energy.
And as What Exit? says, YouTube is a great resource. There are YouTube videos for maintaining/fixing just about anything.
Never mind. YouTube is my friend. And thanks to all the awesome people who post how-tos.
Usually in the head … Its made for capturing dust and stray fibres (lint, eye lashes and relatively short hairs, eg from a short haired cat or dog. ).
So if you have a long hair pet or deep plush carpets, and similar, you might use a different vacuum head for picking that up, and then immediately vacuum it with the dust head to properly pickup dust. Or just check the head for blockages more often. You can tell its blocked from the speed of the vacuums motor… due to the lower air pressure at the impeller, it turns faster… and cools less…
