Well, I am officially not coming. The city inspector came to my home yesterday (they checked all 30 units). The good news is that the apartment owners have to replace my carpet, repair the earthquake damage, and paint. The bad news is that I have to move all of my stuff. By August. So I’m going to have to spend my weekends packing and moving stuff into a storage unit. (Well most of it anyway.)
Well, I asked my brother. He’s not sure what he’s doing that day… he may be playing at a wedding, for all I know. They do indeed play mostly classical stuff, and I’m not sure they can do it off the tops of their heads, so they most likely will not be taking requests. Celtic/Irish stuff? I have NO idea about that, either.
I think they’ve only been doing it for a few weeks now, when they can. So I have no idea if they’ll be busking that day, but will let you know closer to the time.
Anamorphic, “the great seafood place on Granville Island” is most likely Bridges restaurant. (information courtesy of my brother) I’ve never been there, but hear it’s really nice, and the food is good.
Now I have to eat dinner, so will update you all later.

Come ON people, where are my Vancouver buddies? I may be forced to drive up there and SPEAK SEVERELY to you!
aviddiva?
Barbarian?
And rjk, if you think you are going to miss this just because you have a healing broken shoulder, you have another think coming. Because I am planning on sleeping on your floor, so you might as well resign yourself to coming along for the festivities!
And (sorry, my thought processes aren’t processing very well this evening) I KNOW there are a whole lot more of you up there who are being shy. PLEASE come out to the proverbial “woodwork” and join us?
You know, the words “Vancouver” and “Dope” occur consecutively in conversation quite a bit, but not nearly enough in regard to the SDMB.
I’d come out to Granville Island to get a look at y’all, if I can chew through these leather straps.

Whiny bump
I’ll probably be in Vancouver on that weekend.
But I’ll be in the real Vancouver, not that weak imitation up north.
We’ll miss you dear. Have fun in Vancouver…the WA brand I assume?
Okay, folks, time is getting short. Can I get all you lurkers to let me know I can plan on seeing you on the 20th? Of course we COULD have fun without you…but we’d really rather have fun WITH you!
After we have some idea who is coming, we can finalize our plans.
Hm. I guess I don’t get it. But I thought I’d post anyway to say hi to our friends in Vancouver, otherwise known as our B.C. Buds.

Lurkers? Meaning moi? Surely not!
I’m still up for it; if we can pick a place and a time sometime in the next few days, that’ll be great! By the way, please do not try to email me, as I have been unable to check my mail for the last few days. I currently have at least 140 messages waiting for me in my inbox when I get to my brother’s. (oh, joy…) Of course, I could get my brother to check it for me… hmm.
If you wish to contact me, my other contact info is in my profile. Of course, if the info about time, place, etc. could be posted in this thread, that would be great, as well. As long as we make it after, say, 11:30 AM. (some people have to exercise thier singing voices early in the morning, y’know… otherwise known as choir practice)
Just tried to call my brother to determine whether he will, in fact, be busking on the 20[sup]th[/sup]. He wasn’t home, so I guess I’ll ask him later. Even if he’s not busking, though, there’ll be lots of things to do, so don’t worry! (I have a feeling that the last sentence contained way too many commas for my taste… oh well)

Figured I’d give this a little bump, as I’m now here in Seattle and enjoyed what I saw of Vancouver (the little I saw of it, having to hurry to catch transportation).
So I’m in…whether you like it or not.
So, um… Saturday, the 20[sup]th[/sup], at an “undisclosed location” in the Granville Island area? Or is location undecided on?
I’m all for something in negotiable proximity to Stanley Park, if we don’t have to ambient water to avoid that weekend.
New visitors to Vancouver may find this abandoned page of mine informative. Or not.
Sadly, my wife and I will be camping on the Olympic Peninsula, and won’t be able to get up to Vancouver.
Sort of a mixed blessing, though. Last time we went up to B.C., we ended up having to sink several thousand dollars of transmission repair into our car. We’d like to avoid a recurrence if possible.
Larry, from what I can gather, the location is still somewhere on Granville Island. Since the place is fairly huge if you’re go9ing to be meeting a bunch of people (especially people whom you have never seen before in your life), I’d think we need to decide on an actual location within the vicinity. As for proximity to Stanley Park, I don’t know about that. We’ll see, I guess. Just ask Scotti… she’s the one organizing this.

Here is a list of places to choose from at Granville Island. (Which, we should point out to non-BC Dopers, isn’t really an Island. It just sounds kinda cool. We do things differently up here.)
I don’t know any of the places down there, except for Isadora’s, where I once had the pleasure of smoking a big fat uh, Cuban cigar, (or something like that,) with the inimitable Eugene Chadbourne before one of his shows at the Folk Fest. (Which we should be just in time for, come to think of it.)
Of course, Isadora’s seating arrangements aren’t ideal for larger gatherings, so it’s out, anyway. And since the only thing that gets me down to Granville Island is the occasional art-show at Emily Carr, I have no suggestions for a venue.
Here is a more general list of things to do, from Tourism Vancouver… pr’haps something appeals? (I’m still inclined to agitate for checking out the West End & Stanley Park at some point.) I like a nice view.
Ahem
I will be in Vancouver that weekend. You can thank the US Department of State for that one.
I’m staying with a friend of mine in Coquitlam. Being as I have not been in Vancouver since 1981, I can’t tell how far that is from Granville Island.
Give me times, dates, and email me a phone number - we may be able to swing it.
Yes, Scotti, I will be there!
And for you, there’s no need to sleep on the floor!
My couch folds out, you lot!
Hello? Anyone come up with a location yet?
Gingy! It would be so wonderful if you could join us!
I don’t know Vancouver very well, so now that we have a rough idea who is coming, I need help from Vancouverites.
So far, we have…

I don’t mind if we want to go to Stanley Park, but how easy is it to get to from Granville Island? And really, I think Granville Island has enough to do that we could spend the whole afternoon there, ending with dinner and maybe a pub visit afterward.
Rob and I will be going to rjk’s place and then we’ll all take the SkyTrain to whereever we end up going. I think we will, anyway…Bob feels that is the best way to get around the city.
So…lets get some input here…I am not stuck on GI, either, if any of you has a better idea.
Oh, and the only restaurant I have eaten in at GI is Bridges, which was a very nice place…but again, I don’t have any particular feeling that we need to go there.
And also, if Gingy is staying in Coquitlam…does the Sky Train go that far?
