Silent_Rob will be in the PNW in July, and we would like to get together with our Vancouver Dopers on July 20th. I will be picking Rob up in Seattle on Saturday morning, and will be bringing him up to Vancouver that day.
Does anyone have any good ideas for something fun to do during the day…and a good suggestion for a restaurant for dinner that evening?
Rob will be in Seattle the evening of the 19th as well, and I hope there will soon be a thread for a DopeFest that evening. I will be attending that one as well…but I thought it would be easier to have separate threads for the two events.
So…how about it? Any BC dopers want to get together?

Hey, here’s something really close to home! Why not? I’d be happy to come! As for any ideas for a restaurant and such, I have none. All I do is go out to Red Robin’s, Boston Pizza, and the like with my friends, so I don’t know anything else
(except maybe Chinese restaurants, but that may not be to everyone’s taste)
So yeah. count me in!

Hm. Tempting. I like Vancouver. And it would get me out of the bloody heat! I don’t know if I can make it, as my best fiend’s family will be visiting him and I’ll be hanging out in Birch Bay if I come up. (BTW: Can I bring my non-Doper host if I do make it up?)
Anyway, mark me as a “tentative No” but I might show up.
NO problem, sweetie…you can bring your host if you like…OR we can pick you up on the way.
Wow, I might even be able to do this one. Wonder child and I are heading out to Vancouver/Victoria in July with a friend, to visit her parents. I’m not sure when but when I find out, I’ll be sure to let you know.
Vancouver has all kinds of great places to have dinner. Have you been to Granville Island?
SUE!!!
I would really REALLY love to hug you in person! Please try REALLY REALLY hard to be there when this happens…and if you can’t, could you let me know when you are going to be here and I will zip up there for lunch or something? And Wonder child is welcome as well, of course!
WOO HOO…I am so HAPPY!
I miss Vancouver so much, and have been looking for an excuse to get up there for a visit! But unfortunately, I’m not sure about the timing. There’s a good chance I’ll be shoulder-deep in work around then. But you never know! Put me down in the column next to Johnny for a rather unlikely ‘maybe’.
Oh, there’s a great seafood place on Granville Island, but damned if I can remember the name of it.
Well, I’ll be up for anything, of course. It’ll just be great to finally meet so many great friends and great people in general. Also, I’ve never been to Vancouver and I’ve heard great things (I’m considering the VFS after I get my degree, here).
I’ve heard really good things about Granville Island, too. Oddly enough, I don’t remember what they were, but I remember them being great.
Hehe…I’m getting very excited for my trip.
Hey, if we do go to Granville Island, and get there at the right time, we might be able to hear my brother and his friend busking!
Although I don’t know if they do that on Saturdays. I can ask. Good music provided by a couple of great guys (wow, I’m saying my brother is great? man…), and great people-watching to boot! What’s not to like?
(except maybe the crowds and stuff)

Damn wrong Vancouver and wrong weekend!
Talk about two strikes!
I will be in the Abbotsford area around the 5th or 6th…
but I HAVE to be back in Utah by the 20th grumbles So close and so far away

Poop, I was just in Vancouver last week.
Sorry we missed you, Krisfer the Cat and Great Dave…maybe next time?
Now come on guys, I know there are lots of you I would like to meet, and I’m sure that Flam and Silent_Rob feel the same way. What do you say?
Oh, and dear, please DO find out where your brother 'busks." It would be fun to see him perform. And Granville Island is always a fun time. Unless the consensus of opinion is that somewhere else would be better, I think that would be a good place to spend the afternoon.
Say, um…I already posted to the Seattle Dopefest thread, and considering that I will have just arrived in the area, I’m not sure I’d be able to make it up to Vancouver as well (Don’t tell my wife, but I’m gonna see if we can ;)) Maybe we could put me down in Johnny L.A.'s camp?
There’s a couple of really nice places in Lonsdale Quay as well, and the SeaBus trip is always good for a tourist. Of course, my wife hasn’t seen Granville Island yet…
That would be great to see your brother and his friend busking, Flamsterette_X. And I’ve just heard great things about Granville Island, in general.
What does he play?
Eh… Granville Island, Lonsdale Quay… it’s all good.
But Granville Island is really a great place to be, though I haven’t been in a few years now. (I think I’d spend too much money, and I’m a bit too lazy to actually take the bus all the way out there :p)
silent_rob, my brother and his friend play stuff on their violins. I’m not sure what, but maybe classical pieces and stuff like that. (heck, I’m not even sure if they do requests!) I’ll have to ask him about that.
Scotticher, I’ve been trying to get my brother on the phone, but the dude is never home. When I see him tomorrow, I will ask him when and where he busks, and what sort of stuff they do. I’ve neve been to see him, so I’d have no clue.

(though I must say there are more things to do at Granville Island)

Scotticher, I’ve been trying to raise my brother on the phone, but to no avail. The dude is never home, which shouldn’t really surprise me, but I digress. However, I will see him tomorrow, and will ask him then.

NO!!! The dreaded triple post (or a double post followed by a post with eerily similar content)! My apologies. I have no idea how that happened.
F_X
Cool; I’ll look forward to hearing them play.
I’m not sure if I would be able to request much classical off the top of my head. There is a lot of celtic/Irish fiddle stuff that I like, though I’m not sure if they’d play any of that.
?!? How long have they been doing this? I remember watching some guys playing violins there all the time when I lived there. But that was at least 3 years ago.
