Vancouver Hotels

As a side issue to ScaryFaerie’s Vancouver thread, I will be in Vancouver for three nights in May. My daughter has planned activities in Stanley Park and Granville Island, and I am getting the hotel. Any suggestions? We will be getting in by air very late on a Tuesday night and leaving very early by train Friday morning. We will not have a car. All help is appreciated!

I recomend the Coast on Denman (Commox and Denman) . It’s older, but it’s all suites. They often have “package” deals with bottles of wine and food credits.

It’s pretty close to Stanely Park and a short cab ride to Granville Island. I don’t think you can find a hotel that is walking distance to both.

My wife and I ave stayed there a few times with out daughter when we go to the “big city”.

Othere decent hotels that won’t break the bank:

Rosedale on Robson
Hampton Inn and Suites on Robson

They’re down by Yaletown and afe a nice walk to great shopping.

Hope that helps!

MtM

Robson Suites Stayed there many times. Great location.

Rosellen Suites, Barclay near Denman. You could just about spit and hit Stanley Park. Comfy and clean studios to 2-beds.

I went to Vancouver in May 2007, and stayed at a University of British Columbia (UBC) residence. It’s in a gorgeous area with a beautiful campus, and there are many nearby buses that you can take to Stanley Park, etc.

I second all of the above except UBC. From UBC, it will take a minimum of two buses (slow) or 3 (fast) to get to Stanley Park. The Coast is probably the best, as it’s 10 minutes from Stanley park if you’re slow, and maybe 20 minutes to the short and awesome ferries to Granville Island.

I like Moda Hotel.

On my one trip to Vancouver a couple of years ago I stayed at the Sylvia Hotel, right across from English Bay and next to Stanley Park, and it was nice.

I’ll third Coast on Denman. We stayed there in November 2008. Perfectly located for Stanley Park, the ferry to Granville and lots of restaurants.

I also recommend a visit to Legendary Noodle on Denman.

The advantage UBC has is that it’s near the, um, beach. Also, it’s not too expensive - though, as Dr. Drake has said, it does take at least 2 buses to get to Stanley Park.

How about parking? Do all of these recommended places charge for parking?

I stayed at the Landis Hotel back in the 90s, but I was there for 5 weeks (for business) and I had a suite; which you can’t rent for less than a month. But it was a nice place (at least at that time) and they also have regular hotel rooms with nightly rates.

Damn, I miss Vancouver. I have to go back sometime.

Fun fact: the Sylvia had the first cocktail bar in Vancouver. The year…you’re not gonna believe this…

1954. BC has always had some crazy-ass liquor laws.

Thanks all! This gives me lots to investigate.

Vancouver Dope Fest?

Probably, yes. If I recall my last few visits with a car to Vancouver correctly, you’re going to pay for parking if you’re staying downtown.
