vanilla flavor in powder form?

I need to add vanilla flavoring to something but it has to be a dry ingredient. Anyone know of anything?

You can buy vanilla as sticks, and you can scrape out the vanilla using a knife. It’s not exactly “dried” but it may suit your purpose.

No, it needs to be dry as in… storable indefinitely in powdered form at room temperature.

here ya go

also, I have purchased a brand called Dr Otikers (sp?) at stores that sell german baking supplies.

Vanilla powder is always used in german cooking. My friend’s mom had never heard of a liquid version of it.

The german stuff comes in individual packets.

Woohoo! Thanks! I knew it had to be out there, just hadn’t ever seen it!

You can make your own vanilla sugar very easily.

Buy a couple of vanilla beans and place in a covered container of fine white sugar. The sugar will pick up the flavour in a week or two. As you use sugar replace the ammount taken out with new sugar. This lasts forever, I am still using the same beans I put in over two years ago, and the flavour hasn’t noticeably deteriorated.

Cheers, Keithy
