The current MSG is the 4th one, AIR, what is now standing where the others once were?
I can account for two: The original, at (surprise!) Madison Square (23 Street/Broadway, southeast corner) has a high-rise apartment building there now. The one before the current one was on 8 Avenue in the fifties (it was there in the thirties, forties and sixties as well, haha), there’s a large office/residentiol development there now, the name of which escapes me.
Where was the third? I should know this…
The first two were at the same site: 26th Street & Madison Ave.
The third was, as postcards posted, at 50th Street & 8th Ave.
As an aside, the murder of the architech of one of the Garden incarnations–Stanford White by Harry Thaw was the original “Trial of the Century” in the early 1900’s.
Yet every decade probably had a trial of the century: Scopes, the Manson family, and ending with O.J. to name a few. Name your own trial of “Decade/not Century”
There was a (in)famous punk venue in Phoenix call Madison Square Gardens. A live albumn was recorded there as well.
