I’ve always been curious as to why the effects of alcohol vary so much. Sometimes I can get tipsy off of 2 drinks while other times it takes 19 drinks to get the same effect. Why is this? I’ve noticed this phenomenon happens regardless of whether I’ve eaten or not and also happens if I drink a “standard” product like bottled beer (as opposed to mixed drinks where the alcohol levels can vary). What’s the SD on this?? I tried searching in forums, but could not find anything similar.
Sorry, that wasn’t actually a question. What I should have said is: “it probably varies with the time since you last drank”, I know it varies wildly for me. If I don’t drink for a few months, those first few beers hit me hard. If I drank within a week, those first few do very little for me.
Hydration, contents of and time since last meal, amount of exercise since then, how well rested you are, what stress you’re under, and whether or not you’re otherwise healthy all pop to mind as having some small contributing factor as to how fast you feel alcohol. If they all stack up a little bit each in one direction, you get hammered on a wine cooler. The other way, you can drink all night.
The stomach releases enzymes for the breakdown of alchohol.
If you`ve drank recently there will be those enzymes in your stomach and digestive system. Some will be left over and the rest may be more readily available because of recent drinking.
So depending on the person and the time since your last drink you will have different results.
