Vengeance thy name is...Buffy 10/22 (SPOILERS)

FX just re-ran the ep where Faith joins up with the mayor. I wonder exactly how deliberate it is that Buffy is now echoing Faith’s line that Slayers are “the law.” Buffy balked when Faith claimed it, now she obviously embraces it. And Faith is currently cooling her heels in prison, learing control (sort of like Willow without the prison part). Leads one to wonder if, with Faith returning this season, the roles of the two Slayers will be reversed.

Otto: Oh, damn, that’s good. Buffy goes all Dark Willowy, Faith shows up and beats her down to show her the error of her ways. Buffy goes off to find herself in Tibet or something, and next season it’s Faith: the Vampire Slayer. Or Dawn, Xander, or whoever, but SMG’s out without Buffy kicking the bucket again.

OK, I’m still hanging onto my Spike as Little Bad theory. I’d like to expand on that bit.

I think TETDITB’s influence is not confined to the basement. I can see Spike, possibly Willow and Xander, and even Buffy Herself being deluded by this thing into doing some Truly Terrible Things, while believing the whole time that they are Doing The Right Thing. Spike, being still mentally fragile, would be TETD’s first and most obvious vessel.

BTW, it’s still kind of up in the air whether SMG will be signing on for an eighth season. I read an article with a quote from her to the effect that she hasn’t decided not to sign on, she’s apparently waiting until about mid-season or so to make her final decision.

I do hope she stays. Not that I particularly care for Buffy exactly, she is far from my favorite character, but having a show titled “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” without a Buffy character is sort of a death knell, and I can’t picture them retitling the show or anything, either.

I heard that SMG wants to go back to movies. I don’t understand that. She has a great show… these things don’t just fall into your lap. How many people are dying to get into acting and she has something great and then wants to leave? But on the other hand, she is a very good actress IMO and could do some good stuff. She showed some great potential in Cruel Intentions, but Scooby Doo was just… not a place for an actress to shine.

I don’t want to lose my favorite show on television.

Otto, wasn’t there an episode that gave us an inkling that Faith was coming around, even though she was still being persued? I seem to recall one…

It’s all about money. She makes $150K per episode according to IMDB. That makes it $3,3M a year for the show. Now, supposedly she earned $4-6M on Scooby Doo, but I can’t see her making two such movies a year, thus making the same moneys. I don’t know what she got for Harvard Man, but I doubt it was in the same league. Cruel Intentions earned her $500K.

So my WAG is that if her agents can line up two high profile, sure hit movies for next year, she drop out. If not, she’ll likele re-negotiate to do fewer shows or fewer scenes in the same number of shows, to keep the money rolling, while working less.
