Heard this on my drive in today.
Is this for real? Has a real Urban Legend actually and truly taken place? There are names and ages in the CNN report!
Talk about a pyrrhic victory.
I don’t believe it.
poor mouse
So where was Tom during this? Off shirking, no doubt.
Mind you it could have been a copy mouse fire
Damn the luck. I was gonna start the I Burning Your Mouse thread too. Crap. Funny story though, good for the mouse, serves the old sot right.
Given that New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, and other parts are tinder dry and plagued with wildfires, what was this guy thinking burning leaves in the first place?
Knowing this state, the mouse was probably carrying plague or hantavirus to boot.
I, for one…
…nah, just doesn’t work.
Good for the mouse. Any asshole who burns a creature alive deserves whatever he gets.
Oh, it was an accident. I thought the mouse had been reading Billy Collins (scroll down to the bottom).
If he is/was a reader it seems like he may have read George V Higgins The Rat On Fire a very funny book, with great dialogue about an arsonist, and well, rats ultimately.
Reminds me of the story “Squirrel Cop” from This American Life, where a rookie cop tries to help get a squirrel out a guy’s house. The results are not good. Fire is involved.
It’s about 19 minutes into Episode 115 from 11/98
I note that Snopes has included this story on their Daily Snopes page, suggesting that they, like I, look a bit askance upon it. They don’t say anything about its truth or not:
They mention it here, too:
*W-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E
Wickey Mouse!
Wickey Mouse!*
I was thinking the same thing. Not only the burning of the leaves in the first place, but close enough to the house so that a mouse on fire could make it all the way in or under it. The guy sounds like he’s a few lumens short of a candlepower.
Let’s see if the Darwin Award people give this schmuck any [partial] recognition, after investigating the story…
Unfortunately, to be eligible for the Darwin Awards you must either be killed or otherwise be taken out of the gene pool by rendering yourself unable to reproduce. Burning down your house doesn’t qualify
