Venice (California) residents: Remember The Swami Of Venice?

I’m just curious about the Swami Of Venice. This was an older guy who, in the early 1970’s, had a scraggly grey beard and wandered up and down the Boardwalk. Occasionally he’d stop to speak to the crowd, but I have no recollection of what he used to talk about.

He did one TV commercial where he played an auto insurance agent, telling a customer to “Dump the kid, Harry”.

Do any of the L.A. Dopers remember him, or know anything else about him?

Hm. I thought this thread was going to be about the guy in the turban who roller skates around playing Hendrix tunes (badly, but with a smile) on a white electric guitar with a red bull’s eye on it.

The guitar player is Harry Carey–and I’ve heard far worse players than him.

Damn, I was thinking of the guy with the guitar, too.

I don’t ever recall the swami.

Yeah, Harry Carey. I have one of his postcards around somewhere.

I heard about this guy, but never heard of him as “Swami.” He supposedly would stand and just give his philosophy about stuff. I have seen the other guy on roller skates playing a guitar, and found some info. on him:
