CNN says up to a year for each count is possible.
That’s still a pretty good bargain. A good day for bullshit, I guess.
Terrible news for justice.
Great news for the producers of Dancing With the Stars.
And I’m guessing even Judge Perry would let you shoot a bird at the jury today.
Our whole office was watching the verdict. Now everyone is back at work, but uncharacteristically silent. I think we’re all just blown away.
The prosecution simply didn’t prove beyond doubt that she murdered the child. They just didn’t.
I’m totally gobsmacked.
Mr. Rat opines they should never have said they were going for the death penalty, it put too much burden on the jury to find a solid case in what was, admittedly, lots of circumstantial evidence that never directly tied to her.
But her BABY IS DEAD and she didn’t report it or look for her or… how can it not be her fault that her BABY IS DEAD??
I’m boggled.
**tygre **and I called this one. The prosecution fumbled it badly, mistake after mistake. We actually started calling it “OJ 2.”
The sad thing is that the worthless bitch may well be able to have another child.
Maybe this is the universe’s way of giving Nancy Grace a stroke that will render her speechless.
As someone stated on Twitter, ‘The only good thing to come out of this, is that Nancy Grace’s head probably just exploded.’
I agree that part of the problem is that they went for the death penalty. Without absolute irrefutable evidence, people aren’t comfortable giving the death penalty. That is probably a good thing. But it doesn’t make this any easier to swallow.
The death penalty was not on the table at this stage of the proceedings. The trial was merely to determine guilt or innocence. Had the jury convicted her of a death-eligible offense, then there would have been further proceedings, called the “penalty phase”, where the jury would have decided whether to impose the death penalty.
They could have convicted her on manslaughter so the death penalty had nothing to do with all the not guilty verdicts.
The state didn’t prove its case. I don’t blame the jurors at all. Most of these people knew nothing about it going in and they were given no dna evidence, no fingerprints, no witnesses. Just a liar and a party girl that didn’t seem to care her daughter was missing for a month.
I still thought they would give her manslaughter though simply due to the odors in her car that seemed to indicate she moved the body.
It’s not surprising. They could never put a murder weapon in her hand or put her at the scene of the murder. Tampering with evidence or accessory to murder might have had more luck.
I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s the victim of a homicide or at least an attempted murder herself, either in prison or once released, due to the notoriety of this. If she has any brains she’ll do everything possible to change identity upon release. It’s going to be interesting to see if her family has anything to do with her now.
So, does she get to go home now, or do they haul her worthless, sorry ass back to jail/prison?
They have to go back to court on Thursday morning, for the ‘sentencing phase’, or something.
I could believe that some bimbo girl accidentally killed her child by chloroforming her to put her unconscious so she could go party before I would believe that she could murder her in cold blood to have more time with her boyfriend. But she wasn’t even convicted of manslaughter. And why the duct tape? This case stinks worse than that trunk.
I bet she’s just going to go back to the hard party drugs lifestyle. Well, many will hope she overdoses.
I hit up ATMB looking for rules on name dropping other sites but couldn’t find any. So I’m off to Websleuths to join in the outrage over there.
It’s really hard to say, she clearly seems to be a psychopath based on how much she lied and didn’t seem concerned at all that her kid just died. If she can accidently kill her kid without a care in the world, is it really a stretch that she murdered her kid?
IANAL but I would guess she’ll remain in jail until her sentencing for lying to authorities, for which I would guess she’ll get the max. If she gets one year each that’s four years minus time served (which is what- just over two years?) so she’ll be free in a little over a year. Behind bars is probably the safest place for her by far right now.
Ah, ok. Thank you, Sampiro. I had no idea how that sort of thing worked.
