Verizon iPhone outgoing voicemail message help

I have an iPhone 4 and Verizon is my carrier. After my outgoing voicemail message (Hi, this is Crotalus…) plays, an annoying series of canned messages plays. “After the tone…”. “If you would like to leave a callback number…”. When I had a dumb phone with Sprint, I was able to dial the voicemail number and eliminate the playing of those messages via a menu. I have been unable to find a way to get rid of them with my current phone and carrier. The voicemail menu is very limited and has gaps in the numbering, as though there are options not available to me. I can change my password, chance my personal outgoing message, or change my language preference. That’s it.

I have done web and Verizon site searches to no avail. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

You might want to read about David Pogue’s Take Back the Beep campaign. Apparently, Verizon didn’t cooperate fully in 2009.

The simplest way around the issue is to append to your greeting something like “Just press “star” to leave me a message right away.” .

That is brilliant. I’ve been pressing * to get around it on my wife’s voicemail, so why didn’t I think of that?

Thank you very much for this suggestion.
