Verna Bloom has died

Verna Bloom, Actress in ‘Animal House,’ ‘High Plains Drifter,’ Dies at 80

Wow. Mrs. Wormer. Rest well, Verna Bloom.

RIP:(

I only remember one line she said in Animal House and it would not be appropriate to repeat it here.

RIP.

Here’s her IMDb page.

Last acting work in 2003. The West Wing and something called Where Are They Now?: A Delta Alumni Update.

Never heard of that one before.

Wow, so she was only about 40 when she was in Animal House? She seemed much older than that. RIP Mrs Wormer.

I believe it was a bonus feature for the 25th anniversary bluray edition of Animal House. (Wanna feel old? The 25th anniversary edition of Animal House came out 15 years ago.)

I remember her appearance on The West Wing. She played C.J.'s stepmother. (By coincidence, Donald Moffat, who played C.J.'s father, died just three weeks ago.) Bloom had apparently retired and it was her first role in ten years.

She was old enough to be Stratton’s mother… Almost!

Ah, Mrs. Wormer, the woman who taught me the difference between sensual and sensuous. RIP

I have that edition on DVD.

Yes, various actors from the movie reprised their roles 25 years later. Boon and Katie talked about their marriages and divorces, Dean Wormer (now in a nursing home) attacks the reporter when he mentions Delta House, and Hoover reveals that he is now a DA. Babs is still a tour guide at Universal Studios.

And Marion Wormer, who is, at this point, in her 60s, is dressing like a tramp and spending her days in a bar, getting drunk and falling off barstools. When she’s not trying to pick up men, such as the reporter. Verna Bloom played this role perfectly–you could believe that this was what Marion Wormer would have become, 25 years later.

It’s a fun little bonus feature. If you get the chance, check it out.

And yet, she was only nine years older than Tim Matheson.
