Like maybe a few seconds. Is this a nerve misfiring?
Could be. I have a lot ‘misfiring’ nerves these days. It feels like I’m getting stung by a bee on my legs sometimes. ‘Pins and needles’ is a common description for symptoms of nerve problems.
Plenty more reasons depending on where the pain is and what it feels like.
I’ve always wondered about that. Sometimes I’l get a sharp, throbbing pain in a very small area for no known reason for a few seconds and then it’s gone. Like, WTF?
I very occasionally get that, or something very similar. I call those “internal pains,” because there is nothing happening externally (kicking, hitting, etc.) to cause them.
I have gotten what I call ‘long bone pain’ for most of my adult life, imagine someone taking a poker or similar long thin piece of metal, and whacking it midpoint on a long bone like upper arm, thigh or shin. I know it hurts in the middle of the length, but it is hard to pinpoint the exact spot because it is WHACK! then fast fade away. I used to worry it was a bone tumor, and never really mentioned it because between whacks I tended to forget it happening, but in the whole body PET scan I had 6 years ago in my quest to become cancer free nothing popped other than the known tumors.
I will also get that hot wire poke in my feet and hands, but that is known neuropathy behavior [after a number of runs of chemo and radiation, my hands are mostly back but still a bit of strength loss, but my feet are only half back. At least it doesn’t feel like they are locked into ridged ski boots any more.]
Playing footy a few years ago I took a heavy tumble and my elbow jammed into the heavy, muddy ground and I had an immense shot of intense pain for three or four seconds.
I immediately thought I’d done some serious damage to make it hurt so much. However, I suddenly realised that it wasn’t hurting any more, cautiously flexing my elbow It was clear that there was nothing damaged at all. There was no follow-up pain, no soreness, no swelling, nothing.
I have no idea what I did (or didn’t do)
Maybe. Hard to say.
After multiple MRIs and neurological tests that seemed like getting my arms and legs repeatedly hit with a tazer my doctor said the same thing. You guys are all alike.
Likely an electromyelogram or a nerve conductance study. These are… unpleasant.
Random pain seems to be just that, sometimes. It can be referred pain, depending - sometimes, for example, if I poke my leg, I’ll feel a sharp stab / itch in a spot on my ribs, or similar (always on the same side as I’m poking).
I once had very sudden, SEARING, back pain that lasted about 2 seconds. I’d just been injected with some kind of contrast for an abdominal CT scan. I don’t recall whether that was before or after the “peed my pants” sensation which was so entertaining. Bodies is weird.
Just our handwriting.
Your skin has microscopic doodads that measure light touch, position, temperatures and pressure, which might briefly misfire. Your body has nerves aplenty going to every dermatome and muscle, any one of which can briefly spasm, as can blood vessels and bowel. Transient pain can be reflexive, psychosomatic and deeply confusing. Ice cream headaches are thought to be due to blood vessels in the palate going into spasm due to a cold stimulus, for example.
In my case the odds are it’s due to a spinal stenosis and arthritis in every one of my joints. Except my knees, I have a pair low mileage knees that don’t hurt anymore.
I have this exact thing, and used to have a great deal more of it shortly after hurting my back which damaged the nerve.
I also have the sensation a cold droplet just landed on my leg randomly. You ever get that?
I have felt several odd feelings difficult to describe that might be described that way.
The oddest one is a slight burning sensation on an arm or leg but trying to find that spot by touching my leg makes it feel like it’s happening outside of my skin. So if I feel this on my leg and try to touch that spot then as I get closer to where I thought I could feel it then it begins to feel like it’s happening a half inch or so above my skin. if I try to touch that location it moves or goes away.
Sometimes it feels like part of my hand is vibrating. Like someones trying to call and it goes to my hand instead of phone.
