Well this is boring but here in aus, they are currently calling this year ‘the class of two thousand’ and the decade ‘the oooies’

What did people in the 1900s call the decade in which they lived?
Here in the U.S., “the class of two thousand” is also common, but I have yet to hear “the oooies.” Are you sure you weren’t hearing someone who just stepped on a cactus?

Evolved, you might be interested in reading an earlier discussion of this question. I stand by my preference, based on historical precedent, for “the naughty naughts.” Unfortunately, no one else seems to be convinced that the ensuing hilarity justifies this approach.
