Our 10-year-old Lab developed an ear hematoma which has recurred twice despite surgical procedures and apparently successful treatment for ear mites. The latest recurrence is smaller than before, localized to the mid-ear and doesn’t appear to be bothering the dog.
If there is some scarring in this location (well away from the ear canal) is there significant potential for recurrent ear infections or other problems (cosmetic issues are not particularly concerning - I think she’s already going to wind up with a bit of a crumpled ear anyway)? Would a short course of steroid therapy to limit scarring be advisable?
It’s always something…
