Vice President Pence Recalled to DC.

Israel actually bombed Iranian targets in Syria a couple of nights ago. Information is sparse, but it seems to have been a major sortie or series of sorties. A Syrian AA missile apparently landed in Cyprus.

It’s all good, we got Mike Pence on this.

The link is not a reputable news source, and it in turn links to this tweet from a freelance reporter, who provides no evidence:

So it’s just rumors or hearsay. There is also no “European Commission security counsel [sic]”. If it was coming from reputable journalists or reporters, I’d take it more seriously.

It’s an entirely different kind of flying.

There is indeed a “European Commission Security Counsel”, headquartered right here in Krakow, Poland, although membership currently only consists of myself, a young lady called “Anastasia” who works as a featured dancer for Klub Fantasy and the homeless alcoholic Ukrainian guy who lives on the park across from my place.

Trump is getting ready to defenestrate him and replace him with Ivanka.

It was apparently parked in the wrong place.

Has anyone seen the Mountain of Orange Marmalade today?

Ahhh, the Syrian AA strategy: shoot all your shit in whatever direction it happens to be pointing at the time that you get attacked. Sure, you might clip an allied bird from time to time, but it’s a small price to pay for defending the holy land.

You’re not thinking…

Nice to know their missiles don’t self destruct after a certain amount of time /s

I note from the article on the Russian submersible that it is small enough to be used for “special operations”.

Maybe I’ve read too many Tom Clancys, but does “special ops” include clandestine exflitrations of assets whose cover have been blown and they need to get out quickly?

And of course, you need a plausible cover story as to why the submersible is away from its home port during the exfiltration - “fire on-board” might do it.

Just thinking, that’s all…

Apparently not.

Mike Pence! What is it?

I was half expecting Fox News to cut away from its regular programming and start playing classical music.

It’s the Vice President of the United States, but that’s not important right now…

Hey, better him than the Orange Kludge.

ETA: Maybe

The claim is that it was an errant SA-5/S-200. Not the first time it’s claimed that sort of thing’s happened with that missile: Siberia Airlines Flight 1812 - Wikipedia

Strange in that I didn’t think it had that kind of range to be responsible for either incident, unlike either the S-400/SA-21 or S-300VM/SA-23. Moreover, the wiki for the Gammon claims it uses Semi-Active Radar Homing instead of Active Radar Homing in terminal phase. IOW, it needs a ground radar shining on whatever it needs to hit. So, in the case of Flt 1812, why not just turn the tracking radar off? Russians…

I’m glad the thing didn’t go off in that Cyprus field. It’s not a small missile. Bigger than what shredded that Malaysian airliner over Ukraine.

A la what the Politburo had TASS do, back in the day? He’s old enough, it shouldn’t be a surprise if it did happen. But whoooo boy, the conspiracy theories…

I was dreading and, like you, half-expecting to see Pence’s plane’s call sign on FlightAware change to AF1 at some point in the trip.

Reading a statement from Sergei Shoygu, Defense Minister, Russian Federation, that six or so of the dead were “Captains of the First Rank”, which AIUI, is roughly equivalent to a USN O-6, I’m guessing this was a ‘show off our new toy to the brass’ voyage that went awry. Like what happened with USS Thresher. Even given the stereotype that officers do all the work in the Soviet/Russian Navy, 6 Captains seems like an awful lot of gold braid for just mapping the local seafloor.

Nifty sub, on paper. Like a gigantic, nuclear powered version of Alvin or the defunct Sea Cliff.
