It’s possible my search skills have failed me, but I can’t find any discussion of this show. On the other hand, it’s hard for me to imagine I was the only one watching it.
What a weird, funny, horrifying, entertaining show this was. It managed to combine all the elements of cringe comedy and plot absurdity, as well as a dab of pathos. The interactions between Walter Goggins and Danny McBride were terrific, as was the rest of the supporting cast.
I saw the S2 finale a couple of nights ago. Loved Lee’s line as he’s laying there on the floor, “I hate fucking tigers!”
The fight scene in Venetian Nights, where Gamby and Lee bash their way through the rooms and hallways of the school is one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a long time.
ps: speaking of “cringe comedy and plot absurdity, as well as a dab of pathos”, I’m really enjoying Lady Dynamite.
One of the things that really sold the show to me is that while they are equal partners (ish), they have completely different feelings about what they’re doing. Gamby almost always seems to feel little guilty about what he’s doing, while Lee for the most part doesn’t even pretend. He sums up the entire series for himself when he says, “This is the favorite year of my whole life. I know what we did was wrong, but I liked it. It was fun.”
I watched Season 1 and I had mixed feelings about it. I think I would have liked it better if it were less mean or more funny (or both). It’s easily my least-favourite thing I’ve seen Walt Goggins in.
I’ll probably watch Season 2, though; it’s only 9 half-hour episodes, after all.
I finished watching Season 2 and I liked it better than the first season. They seemed to be picking on people who mostly deserved it, and I liked the mystery plotline (such as it was). And they gave more time to Lee’s wife and mother-in-law, who were two of my favourites from Season 1.
I’m the opposite. I couldn’t get into EBAD at all but I loved VPs. I was so confused at the ending until I read a few days later it was the SERIES finale.
Yes I’m bumping my own thread. I’m re-watching the show, and really loving it again… I missed some things the first time, and knowing where it’s headed does change the feel.
(also, in my OP, Walton Goggins for goodness sake)
