Vice, Viceland, Vice News...on youtube

Some of you may know Vice News from HBO. Here’s a broadcast, “On the Ground in Ukraine.”

I first encountered it as a channel on DirecTV. I’m not sure about their history. They do have programs like “Weediquette” that may explain the channel’s name, but they’ve branched out.

They used to have a program called “Vice Essentials” which was often somewhat random but fascinating documentary bits. Here are a few:

People living in cemeteries in the Philippines.

Suicide forest in Japan

Escapee talks about North Korean prison camp

The Cannibal Warlords of Liberia.

Other interesting titles (you may see these to the right of the Liberia piece):

Prostitutes of God
The KKK vs. the Crips vs. the Memphis City Council
The Mexican Mormon War
The Black Bloc: Inside America’s Hard Left
Bride Kidnapping in Kyrgyzstan
Life as a Truck Stop Stripper.

Any other Vice(land) fans? They also had some excellent stuff with skateboarder Rick McCrank (Abandoned, Route 66) and Matty Matheson (Dead Set on Life, Munchies).

ETA: Mean to say, it seems like they’ve posted a lot more full episodes to youtube. I feel like I hit the jackpot.

Cool! I was unaware of this channel, but I’ve just watched the start of the Ukraine video and it looks like quality stuff. Thanks for the tip! I’m always in search of material like this.

They’re also on my local cable lineup. They have a lot of very interesting footage and commentary.

One of its three co-founders went on to found the Proud Boys.
