Video camera falls from plane. Records all the way down. Lands in pig pen.

That’s outstanding. Glad it didn’t hit the pig.

I’m trying to understand what we’re seeing on the video on the way down. The best I can figure is that the camera is spinning and the electronics are fighting to stabilize the picture, and that somehow causes the multiple bands of earth and sky.

It may be an effect of the rate of spin of the falling camera versus its video frame rate.

That makes sense.

It landed face up?! With a clean lens?!? With a fisheye?!? BULLSHIT!

In a pig’s eye would have sufficed.

i think a pig would be more destructive than just licking.

I hear what you’re saying, but if it’s fake then it’s a damned good job.

Combined with a “rolling shutter”, which means each frame is not taken in one go, but line by line from the top.

Love it. Reminded me of those several Mars probe landing images.

I’m glad we were spared a trip through the pig.

Erm, I mean the pig tasting it at the end, not falling through the pig. But I’m glad that didn’t happen either.

*Dum de dum de dum de - *

plop

*Oh, look! Something fell from the sky!

Can I eat it?*

That pig has it all figured out.

Too bad it didn’t land in the Chicken Coop. Chicken Little would be clairvoyant!

What’s so unbelievable? 50% chance of landing face up and it didn’t have a whole lot of time to get crap on the lens. I’m not sure what being a fisheye has to do with your disbelief.

My gut reaction is that this is a viral ad for GoPro.

If it’s an ad, it doesn’t seem like it really showcases the video quality.

But it does showcase the durability.

I don’t think it’s fake, but it does seem like the sort of thing that might be staged - drop a few dozen cameras from a plane over a field, then pick out the best footage. Maybe toss some by hand into a pig pen, near a pig, then check those for the most amusing ending.

You can see it’s a pig field before the camera lands, but the ground impact moment would be a really easy place to splice the footage.

Quite possible, not that GoPro need any advertising, the things are everywhere as it is.
