Video game music that sends chills up your spine

The ending credits song to Metal Gear Solid: The Best is Yet to Come

World of Warcraft.* Wrath of the Lich King* expansion. Sholazar Basin zone. During the day time hours, one of the rotating atmospheric background tunes is Garden of Life. One of the most tear-wellingly-lovely game tunes I’ve ever heard. I’ve actually passed through the zone (which is way off the beaten path for current content) just for a chance to hear this music.

Muse - Advent Rising … got this in the “Greatest Video Game Music” someone gifted me and it’s hauntingly beautiful.

White Room - FF XII - I was very sad when this wasn’t included in the standard soundtrack :frowning:

The Oath - FF VIII - genuinely got goosebumps during this the first couple times through the game

I am not alone - FF IX – Beautiful piece in the game, but this piano version of it is touching and haunting

Speaking of WoW WotLK, I absolutely love the music that plays when Arthas dies at the end of Icecrown Citadel.

I agree with the OP on FFXIV, but I find the cities’ music, both day and night, quite striking too.

Wrath had some of the best zone music before or since. Grizzly Hills ambient music always reminds me of whichever Civil War miniseries had the letters home to the wives. That scratchy fiddle is so melancholy!

Also, the cello music in the blood elf starting zone. Beautiful!

Bastion and Transistor, both by Darren Korb, are superb energetic mixes of electronica/guitar

The Last of Us as wonderful moody Spanish-style guitar.

Jeremy Soule also did the Guild Wars soundtracks, great epic fantasy symphony scores.

I love almost all the music in Bravely Default. I found aninteresting videobreaking down several of the themes and how they’re used effectively in gameplay.
